ETA: I would also take some 1070-1095! Not picky, just need a little steel to play with.

Hello everyone.

I am looking to buy a couple sticks of 5160/6150

Specs:

1/4" x 2-3" x 6' or 8' lengths. Cut down to 3' sections is fine.

Admiral has a minimum of 22', I dont need that much right now. Just looking to stock up a little.

If anyone has any they could let go, feel free to PM or email me @ 45warrior@cableone.net

Thanks!

Chris

Admiral sells their 1075/1080 and 1095 in shorter lengths-72" or such. Well worth having extra!!

I do wish they had their 5160 in shorter lengths though!

Hey Walter,

yeah I saw there 1080 etc steels. Really want to continue 5160 or 6150 right now, but if someone had in close to my specs I would take it off there hands.

I also wish they would cut down there lengths in 5160:confused:

Hey Paul,

Kelly is good people but after endless attempts at ordering to no avail...... I had to give up and move on.

Once business pick back up I can start ordering in bulk. This is all new to me so I am just trying to stock up on suppliers to keep the steel coming in:thumbup:

Thanks to all that have helped. I am going to give McMaster a try unless someone knows of a cheaper source:eek::D They only have what I need in 3" width, but since it is chopper steel it will do me good!!

Chris

Chris, did you check to see what Kelly Cupples has?

When I buy 5160 I use Pacific Machinery and Tool steel out of Portland. Prices are cheaper than Admiral and Mcmaster, but you have to buy the stick. Good Luck.

Thanks Chuck!

I went ahead and ordered from McMaster this go round.

What are they charging for there sticks if you can recall? I would assume they come in 20-22' sticks?

i have not purchased any in 4 or 5 years, (stocked up then changed primary steel). IIRC it was around $40 for a 1/4 x 1.5 x 22' plus shipping. They also have 1080 and 1095 but they can be a bit of a pain to deal with if you can't guess what size they have. Last time I bought some 1095 they could not tell me what stock they had on hand for a given thickness. Still the prices are fair and for me I can just make a day trip to go pick it up.

Thats not bad for that length! My only concern would be getting something not to my spec. Might give them a call on my next order and see what info they can provide, if accurate I might give them a shot!

I have ordered probably a couple thousand pounds from Pacific, not only for knives but for my machine work also. Never have I gotten something that was out of spec. They are in the business of selling steel to large manufacturing plants etc. They do not specialize in blade steel but have a fair selection, O1, A-2,D-2,5160,1095,1080,1070. Once in a while they have specials on rems. I picked up 500lbs of O-1 for $1/pound. They also had D-2, A-2 and H13 all for $1/pound. Just need to give them a call and ask about the rem selection. They had it on EBAY for a while.

Chuck,

Now thats a good price:eek::D I will have to call them this week to get the scoop. Hope to order a nice box of steel:thumbup::thumbup:

Happy Holidays to you and yours pardner.
