Looking for a dagger or stiletto.

I'm interested in buying a dagger or stiletto. It will only be to look at and fondle with, so the blade steel is not important. I want it to have at least a decent fit and finish.

Old school stacked leather or wooden handle preferred, but modern materials are OK.

No zombie stuff, and hopefully a sterile blade.

I usually don't buy knives that I have no use for, and I don't want to spend a lot of money on one.

Do you have any recommendations?

Boker Applegate 145th Anniversary dagger. Only 145 made and each has a serial#. The quality, polished blade and Grenadill handles are great on them.

The Spartan-George V-14 Dagger is available now. It was the WINNER - BLADE 2014 Collaboration Knife of the Year. Spartan Blades makes very high-quality US-made knives.

Lol, OP specifically says he doesn't want to spend a lot of money on the knife, and you recommend...a knife that runs around $400?

^^^ I guess you missed the part about not spending a lot of money...

I might get flamed for this but United Cutlery makes a few DE daggers that are cheap and fun to mess around with.:D;)

Or, one of these; Windlass Steelcrafts FS dagger:

I don't think you'll be flamed too hard; United Cutlery seems to be producing some nicer stuff these days. Nothing to write home about, mind you, but it seems that quality has improved.

This dagger from United Cutlery's Combat Commando lineup is running with AUS-8 steel, runs $30 from their website. Imaginatively called the 'Combat Commander Black Boot Knife. :p

Cold Steel Ti-light stiletto.

I've had one in my Amazon wishlist for a while now and had totally forgotten about it. Had an Italian stiletto in college until someone lifted it from the dorm room. Pretty useless but loved the look.

When the OP said 'dagger or stiletto', I assumed he had meant this kind of stiletto...

If not, then I second the CS folder.

I thought he meant this kind of stiletto, which is why I was hesitant to reply.

Yes! That's exactly what I'm looking for!!! Who makes those?

I should have mentioned that I'm looking for fixed blades, and not folders.

For a stiletto type dagger with a leather-stacked handle do a Google search for "v42 dagger". It's a WW2 design with a lot of history (doesn't get more "old school" than that). And they can be found cheap.

Look at Blackjack knives. They make stacked leather handled Randall clones, I highly recommend the model 1-7, or the model 5 which is a shorter version. These can be found for $165.

Here's the a Model 5 (with a black micarta "saber" style handle) and a 1-7 (with a green micarta "saber" style handle). Both can be had with stacked leather, but then you have a bolt with a nut on it sticking out of the bottom of your knife:

Thanks man.

That's the knife I have, although it's modified now... I got mine for free with a UC Rambo 4 from a guy at a flea market.

OP is asking for a dagger or stilleto...those are Bowie knives...nice I agree, but not what the OP asked about(also not sure if $165 meshes with his specific request that he doesn't want to spend a lot money). If $165 is within his price range, Cold Steel makes a lot of big daggers in that range like the Italian Dagger, Hand and a Half Dagger, or Scottish Dirk. For something cheaper, smaller, and more modern they also have their Counter Tac line(and for folders, the Counter Point and Ti Lite lines). To the OP, maybe if you give us a price range you consider "not a lot of money" we could narrow it down more? The Counter Tac line is like $60, is that too much?

Windlass Steelcrafts has several "historically based" designs available, including a version of the Fairbairn-Sykes, the Arkansas Toothpick, or the V-42. Prices vary a bit, they'll be less than the historical Cold Steel daggers, but as much or more expensive than the Counter Tacs and the folders.

United Cutlery makes several daggers that will run even less than the Cold Steel stuff.

The December 2014 issue of Blade Magazine has an article on daggers:

UPDATING A LEGACY: THE RESURGENT MILITARY DAGGER FUELS INNOVATION WHILE STAYING TRUE TO ITS LINEAGE

Check out the old original Tekna Ocean Edge dive knife. They're still available.

IMO it's a perfect dagger, won't rust, can be double edged if you like and comes with a unique locking box sheath that is highly versatile. Best handle I know of for fancy paracord or leather wrap if you desire.

I bought mine in the 70's and still carry it. Extremely utilitarian knife.
