Looking for a decent chopper

If I do decide on the BK9, where is a good place to purchase the BK9 and a place to get the Marcarta handle?

Another poster mentioned a good place to get this. Given the prices as of right now you could get the BK9 and micarta (though, I'd still hold off on these handle slabs until you are absolutely certain you don't like grivory) for just under $110.

The junglas is fantastic. Great handle design, one of the most comfortable out there. No questions asked service, and a top notch sheath included.

The rodent 9 feels good but I haven't chopped with it yet. I have used the junglas and it's awesome.

I am trying to get a becker to try and heard good things of them, but I have no experience with them, just the junglas.

God luck.

The Kumunga rocks and costs so little you may as well get one regardless of what other piece you happen to stumble across.

the default bladeforum's response "just buy both" ;)

you're right, for the price i'll probably just buy a kumunga for the hell of it, then i'll figure out later if i need or want something else. for me, i want a larger knife to fill the batoning/splitting role, the larger knife will be teamed up with a folding saw.

I'll second the RTAK-2. Less the a Junglass, and I beat the hell outta the one I had and never had an issue. I've seen it battoned through hard wood with a hammer. it dented the spine, but did the job. I processed fire wood with mine all winter and it was a champ. Also, with the micarta handles you can file and sand them down to a perfect fit for your hand if you so desire. The sheath is basic, but it works.

I appreciate everyone's advice and views on the different knives I should consider. You guys are the greatest. I ended up narrowing it down to the BK9 and the Swamp Rat Rodent 9. Yes, I know the Swamp Rat is more expensive and some may say it's not even at the same level as the BK9. For me, it came down to having something nice from the beginning and not having to sell something to upgrade to a better knife.

With that said, I purchased the Swamp Rat 9 because of the way it felt in my hands and the type of steel and heat treatment Busse uses.

Again, thanks for the advice and I look forward to hearing from many of you again.
