looking for a decent edc under $50

He's got a Skyline already.

But I do second the RAT-1. I think it would serve well as a woods or campus knife, based on personal experience.

Whoops...

I swear my reading comprehension's gone downhill...

I think I might be leaning towards the rat-1. Added to my Amazon wishlist. Give it another couple days. I did like the buck marksman as was suggested, but it's quite pricey. I'll keep an eye out for some used on eBay. Thanks again for all of the input. I'm glad I joined the forums. I'm getting a lot of info on brands I'm unfamiliar with.

Delica 4 although its a bit beyond your price or Rat model 1 or 2. Also the tenacious is a great folder

I have been liking the Spyderco Persistence lately. Hard to beat for $31.51 (Amazon) a little less menacing looking.

The Spyderco Delica can be had, right now, for $54.95.

The Spyderco Cat is $46

Agreed. Just spend the extra for the Delica and your going to walk away happy.

I have yet to find a better slicer, carry friendly, and easy to get shaving sharp for the price. That vg-10 that spyderco does is just amazing.

Rat 1 comment: The Rat1 is my weekend knife, when I am more casual and with friends and family. It's my favorite cheap folder, but I think it's too big for my work environment so am expecting the 2 to be a little more pocket friendly and discreet.

The Delica is also available in several "office environment friendly" colors... Helps reaffirm the "tool vs. weapon" interpretation.

Hey all. This is my first post. I'm looking for suggestions on a new edc. I don't have a lot of money to spend. Trying to keep it under $50. Currently using a Kershaw skyline. I am considering: Esee Izula or BK 24 (never carried a small fixed edcbefore), Ontario rat-1 folder, or Esse zancudo folder. I have not had the pleasure of owning an Esse so I might be leaning that direction. My state knife las have no restrictions on folders. And fixed blades cannot be concealed. Only reason I might not want a small fixed. So, any suggestions?

I EDC a Becker BK11 aaaaaaall the time in a pocket sheath. Your Izula or BK24 (or BK14) should work just as well if you go the fixed blade route. For me, a fixed blade is just handier than a folder.

RAT 1 or 2, Esee Avispa or Zancudo, Ontario Utillitac II. All are great budget friendly EDCs. A step up would be The Delica. If you want to go American made look at the Kershaw Knockout or Piston, these are two tough Kershaws, much more substantial than the Skyline.

Ka-Bar Dozier. Wonderful blade for around $20.

I got the foliage green model, but there are coyote brown, blaze orange, black, pink... thumbstud or thumb hole.

I recommend the izula II, I love mine. It's my current edc and I don't see myself swapping it out anytime soon. The micarta scales make it worth the extra dollars imo, check out the exchange or bladehq for some good deals.

Thanks for all of the input. Turns out my wife decided to suprise me and got me a Becker bk14. I've never used a small fixed blade as an edc, so I'm looking forward to trying this out. Probably wrap in paracord until I find some scales for it.

Sounds like a great woman. Congrats on that. I used to carry a BK11 in my right front pocket. Had some wood scales on it and I never had a problem with it.

ETA: Here's a pic. It would just ride in the pocket like this.

I second the Ontario knives utilitac (pardue) folders. Good solid knife a few different variations, tanto, drop point, serrated or non or full on tanto ,squared off handles or rounded. Good ergo. Just a solid piece for the $$$

Very nice of her - hope you really enjoy it!

Some of these recommendations are a bit outdated.. If I were you I'd go for something like a Delica or a couple Ganzos. Also check out the s30v kershaw blur.
