I am looking for an Every Day Defensive Carry Knife. Looking for a large THIN folder.
-I want it to be 5", atleast 4.5" (bare minimum 4.25" if options are that limited) blade length.
-Definitely under 7 oz.
-Preferably no more then .5" thick for IWB carry.

It will be an eddc dedicated blade, i already have an edc blade.
Thoughts? searching has shown nothing, essentially a kershaw knockout with a bigger blade.

Oh! also I am a lefty so multiple position clip is a must.

(This isn't a thread on if a knife is good for self defense or that i have a "knife-fighter" mentality. My mentality is that of a CCW person, to defuse any altercation and i do have a ccw handgun but in my state to get my permit it will be a year's time and $600. So i must do something in the meantime.)

That's going to be tough. Thin knives are normally associated with blade lengths shorter than 4.5 inches. I'll be interested to see what others come up with.

Resilience is the best I have seen but i would love it if it was just a tad thinner. so far all i have on this list is resilience, benchmade LFK(not thin though). Like I said previously a 4.5" or even 4.25" kershaw knockout would be a dream.

C@llector; I just got a caly 3.5 (para 2 was fighting with this purchase but i bought it over the para mil 2 for being light, more petite, and wire clip my favorite), i want bigger for eddc.

CRK&T just released a James Williams designed knife called the Otanashi Noh Ken. Write up's say that Williams was tasked by the special forces to come up with a larger, more concealable combat folder. The above was the result. It hhas a blade of .160" thick X 4.52" long with an oal of ten plus inches. The weight is 6.4 ounces, it is a framelocker that looks really thin and has a deep carry pocket clip for iwb carry. Looks like a nice knife for someone who is in to large folders, someone like me!!:D

Spyderco sounds like the brand you're looking for, all their models are very thin, compared to other brands like Benchmade that is, and perhaps look at the SE Pacific Salt? Or Atlantic Salt? Tasman Salt? Super super light and thin, I carry the Salt 1, IMO serrated edges are best for self-defense situations as they can rip through fibrous material such as denim or leather, the Spyderco Civilian might be for you, if you don't expect your EDDC knife to do EDC tasks.

Edit: Definatly gonna be hard to find the blade length you're looking for in that weight perimeter

Get an Opinel 10 and put an aftermarket clip on it. Light, sharp, Just not really fast opening.
The latter probably won't matter as you will probably loose in a knife fight if you don't initiate it in the first place. (sorry, I just don't understand this "defensive" knife carry thing. Get a gun if you really Need a defensive weapon.) Just my opinion.

Blessings,

Omar

Not quite 4.5" in blade length, but the Spyderco Police 3 is thin and long.

I love all the suggestions, thank you.

the Otanashi Noh Ken would be mine if the clip can be lefty or a customized one available.

In response to the defensive use in question; I already own a ccw handgun (kel tec pf9) but in my state the months and fees for a permit comes to $600 and about a years time. So in that sense I want to do all i can. i am not arguing if a defensive tool is needed because it is; muggings, murders, and etc happen to ordinary people daily. Silly to think it can't happen to you.

I want it for defensive use, a ccw mindset is to defuse any hostile interactions; by apologizing, taking the blame, walking away, and even by means of sprinting away. I have been in 2 situations so far where I have sprinted away, I try to live by this mentality. Even so there can be circumstances, extreme, where attack is the best defense or suffer serious injury or even death. So i want to be prepared. And after i get my permit i still intend on carrying an eddc because it is possible that the gun can fail or i lose it while evading, etc.

I also know my requirements are stiff and to add to that my budget is under $150 because i am hobby money poor & i have seen it done for that price. (resilience $40).

But they are stiff because these requirements are ideal for my eddc; light, large, iwb, reversible clip, preferably FFG, plain edge, and bang for the buck. They are tough but i have seen a few and I want your knowledge and experience in helping me find the ONE.

I would love the voyager except the newer models are fat and the older ones are thinner and better (IMO) but I cannot find the older voyagers in plain edge for sale anywhere.

The Spyderco Endura FFG is just a little short of your specified length, but is incredibly slim light and well within your budget. It can also be had with an emerson opener and still be well under your price limit.

It's shorter than your length preferences, but a Benchmade 710 at ~4" blade length is light (~4.7 oz), thin (<0.5") and has a reversible clip. Also, I've always thought it felt kind of stabby (why isn't stabby a real word?)

The 6" Cold Steel Hold Out I is 0.7 oz over your limit. Perhaps you would consider that acceptable for an extra 1.5" of blade length over your target? If you ground it down to 4.5", I'll bet it would be under 7 oz. :D

Going the other direction, if you are willing to go down to a 4" blade in exchange for super light weight and exceptional IWB carry-ability, the AL Mar Eagle Ultralight only weights 2 oz.

Frankly, the vast majority of good designs in the type you are looking for are either right at the 4" mark or up at 5.5". In asking for 4.5"+ under 7 ounces, you are limiting yourself in such a way as to exclude the best designs.

I'd suggest a FFG Delica. On the one in a million shot you need to use it to defend yourself, it'll work fine. The 999,999 out of a million other times you use it, it will work great. Unlike a "dedicated" tactical SD knife, which really isn't going to work well those 999,999 times.
