knife that can be carried horizontally on a belt. Something with a 3-3.5" blade and a decent sized grip and a nice steel, 440c or 154. Does not have to be a high-end knife but of good quality and not a Mall Ninja thing. Somehting easily concealed but readily accesible for edc with a stright blade. My next choice is a neck knife but would rather have it belt carried.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Frank.

Kabar Becker BK24 (3.25", D2) along with the factory Zytel scales.

Schrade SCHF 16. Here's mine with my home made scout sheath. That's my favorite way to carry fixed blades. When you purchase it, it's set up for neck carry. It neck carries ok, but it's a little heavy. I made my own leather sheath, because I felt the handle needed more support to carry it scout.

The 9cr18mov is a little under 440c imho, but not by a whole lot. It's stainless, and it hold an edge surprisingly well.

Agreed.

Although, D2 isn't quite stainless, nor quite carbon, its kind of a "semi-stainless" steel. So just be aware of that.

And the factory sheath is ok, and can be setup with any kind of cordage to be carried horizontally on the belt.

Good luck finding something that works for you :).

The Critter sheath is made to either ride in the pocket or with a belt loop attachment for horizontal carry.

Any knife can be carried sideways, just may have to get a custom sheath... So 1st suggestion is get whatever knife you want, and then get a custom sheath if needed...

That said, I would also suggest a Böker Coye Ridgeback with an aftermarket sheath (great little knife, horrible factory clip)

TOPS coyote - very similar design, carbon steel and rotating clip

KaBar Becker bk11/bk14 + a TDI clip.

Böker Cowboy crossdraw is a tad bit smaller then 3".

ESEE offers a stainless Izula. I believe they use 440C for the steel which came crazy sharp out of the packaging. I have one and like it a lot. The clip/sheath can be mounted for horizontal carry, though I'd like to get a nicer kydex sheath for it. I also suggest getting the available G10 scales that I think you can get from ESEE as well. Makes the knife feel much better in hand as opposed to the naked skeletonized handle.

The BK-24 is excellent. Never owned an Izula but hear they are good as well. The 24 in D-2, though, seems about as bombproof as you can get.

On the less expensive side, check out a Tops/Buck CSAR-T Liason. You might have to wrap or build up the handle a bit but it makes the stealthiest horizontal carry I know of with the addition of two zip-ties, adjusted to your belt width, through the sheath grommets. The sheath is minimal and holds the knife very securely.

You didn't mention budget, but if you can spend a bit a Bradford 3 or Arno Bernard are excellent knives and carry horizontally very well.

I saw this knife used as an example in another post. it intrigued me so I checked out the website. Unfortunately for me but not surprising there were no knives available for immediate purchase and a several month lead time to order one.

Incredibly handsome and useful looking knives I must say. Maybe I can snag one on the exchange.

I'd say if you have patience order one from screechowl

Thank you so much for the kind words! The lead time is not that bad for certain models. If you like a knife and want one just contact me so I can give you a better time frame. I also raffle knives off so people can get ahold of them. Here are two recent knives I raffled off. I call them the Western Puukko. The top one is for horizontal carry and the bottom has a comfortable nylon belt loop for vertical carry.
