Hello all, I am looking for a traditional fixed blade, hunter style, clip point prefered or drop point, D2 tool steel, bone or stag handle, 4" blade length and a budget around 250$ for the following purposes, angling, outdoors and trekking.
Thanks for the inputs and suggestions.
A merry Christmas to all.

Simple: google Gene Ingram at Gene Ingram Knives. Check out his site. Great knives. I have one: stag scales, d2, handmade leather sheath. One of the sharpest and best designed knives I ever handled. You won't be dissapointed. Bill

Dozier's knives, a friend of me collect them and suggested also, but I don't remember having seen some stag or bone handles, Ingram's knives I also noticed most of them are with micarta handles and a few are more than 4" blade length, I will check again, may be in the second market, some old series.
Thanks

See also Charles May and Tom Krein. Gene Ingram and Charles make very similar stuff while Tom studied with Bob Dozier. They both make their own sheaths (leather for Charles and kydex for Tom) too.

Krein TK-5 Magnum Hunter (black G10 scales) and TK-7 "Chute" (green canvas micarta):

I too agree about Charles May, Gene Ingram, Tom Krein, and Bob Dozier. You can not go wrong with any of these gentlemen's knives!!

I strongly encourage you to spend your hard earned money on a full tang out-of-doors knife that you will pass down to your kin after you have used it for a life time of adventure hunting, fishing, treking and camping. The Gent I speak of has been hand forging knives one at a time for over 30 years, and can make you a knife and sheath like this one to your own specifications in a week for 160.USD.. PM me if interested or email at veritas.group@att.net

That´s amazing!!!
I´m not big on fixed blades, but that´s a stunner.
Really like the shape of the blade, but the rams horn handle is a killer.
A proper, hefty user in the clothes of a gorgeous dress-knife.

For just a little under $200, I have a Bark River Knife and Tool, "Fox River" in A-2. I've had it for a year now, and it's a wonderful knife!:) I have a Dozier on order, for $250. It's my first Dozier, so I can't comment from first hand experience yet, but Dozier's reputation is impeccable, so I expect it to be as good, or possibly even better than the Bark River.:p

But from experience, if I had to spend the rest of my life with nothing but Bark River knives, I would be pretty well content.:D

Thanks Karl5,
It is likely the last fixed blade hunter I'll ever purchase. Its a custom by Eddy White of Shadow Knives. I cannot tell you how well I love this knife. He hangs out in the 'Knives for Sale Forum' here at bf.com:thumbup:

Ben Dover, I agree with your assessment with Bark River. I have three of them my self currently and they are fine knives indeed. Bob Doziers knives are fine as well and you will not be disappointed.

Thanks sunnyd.
I might just have to go have a look in the "Knives for Sale" forum.

SunnyD,
What are the specs on that Shadow knife model? That looks to be ram's horn handles and maybe a four inch blade? That is a fine knife and I may have to buy one just to hand it. How does it balance in the the hand?

Lanza,
440C Full Tang construction. Blade is nearly 3 1/2 inches from tip to guard. With very chunky rams-horn scales and leather sheath. Finger groove just under guard is the balance point and it feels great in my hand. I am not the jolly green giant but my hands are fairly large and this handle is perfect for me where as most custom fixed blade knives fall short in this department. Go to www.shadowknives.com and tell him I sent you. He will treat you right.

BTW, He also makes this identical knife in several different nice colors of Micarta with sheath for $90.. I bought a handful of these and gave them out for Christmas Gifts this year to my hunting and fishing buddies and they all come hair shaving sharp and hollow ground. Its a beautiful thing!. :D
