Looking for a fixed blade

alright then I will :).
I just dont buy into the hype. If I'm going to pay at least $200 for a knife (especially since most infi knives are more expensive than that) It better resharpen itself and make water bounce right off it.
That would make it less maintenance if it could sharpen itself?? :D

I'm with the 1095 guy's  It takes & holds an awsome edge & is very easy to resharpen to a Laser like edge :D I have never had an issue w/rust on 1095...I always wiped them down w/ RemOil before I took them out & I always wiped 'em down when I got in. As for which knife, I'de look into Rat Cutlery RC-5 or RC-6 (I'm still deciding which one of these I want to)

how would edge retention etc compare to infi? I Guss 1095 is subjective to the heat treatment.

Both the SAS and USAF SERE manuals say ideally to carry at least two edges, so if one gets lost or destroyed you have another. 300 dollars is more than enough for a very nice edged tool set for any survival kit. A RAT RC5 is a little over 100 dollars and would make for an awesome rough use utility knife. Digging, chopping etc. made easy. a 10 dollar Fiskars folding saw, decent belt axe and a smaller Scandinavian edged skinning knife for finer tasks like filleting, gutting and carving would be pretty ideal. You don't have to spend alot of money to find yourself some nice knives.

Funny no-one here has mentioned Falkniven or BRKT yet. Both have models under $200 that would suit and are built for rugged use with superb heat treats and convex grinds. There are other options beside 1095 and INFI - good as these are

One of the best modern survival knives is the Fallkniven F1, a well proven design. There is now a limited edition available with a blade in their 3G powder steel which is very hard and retains edge a long time.

"Falkniven or BRKT" I've been looking at those they seem pretty good from what I've read. No experiance with them. Seems like they just don't have the "Cult" following :)

any1 have any experience with the zt 100? it's usually like 236$ but i can get it for like 188$

fallen and brkt some some reason don't appeal to me. i have herd bad things about brkt.

and dam i just seen the noss test on the rc4 and hell that thing took a beating with no damage to the edge at all. must have really good heat treats

The RC-4 is a good blade.

Don't know much about the ZT0100 though.

I'll throw out 3 blades...

Small - Ontaion RAT-3 in D2

Medium - Ranger RD-7, find an original

Large - Kershaw Outcast (large and super good value)

You should enjoy any of them, they are all exceptional knives.

Cool. Great company and great people. Let us know what you think! That thing looks like a bruiser...
