After a bunch of searching and phone calls, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here. I'm hoping to find a flat bar/cut sheet of 7075 aircraft aluminum, heat treated, or comparable alloy in strength and toughness. It needs to be 3/8" thick, and at least 2 1/4" wide by 51" long. (can be 2 1/2" or maybe 3" wide, but don't want to do too much grinding.)
For those curious, this is to make a practice longsword (blunt), and I want the aluminum because that's what other members of the group will mostly be using. Want to stay fairly close to the same hardness as their blades so we don't chew each other's up. (or I would just use a softer grade of aluminum or steel) It won't be for sparring/bouting/freeplay; just controlled drills and solo practice which would involve pell work. (full force blows against a wooden post)
I really have no idea what something like this would cost, and if it proves too difficult to find some, I'll likely just buy a ready made one; I was just hoping to make my own with a few differences compared to the commercial ones.
