Looking for a flipper

There have been some awesome suggestions here, I've got to say. Me personally, I always recomend saving up and going for a Shirogorov for a flipper, but I know that can't be realistic for everyone :D

In terms of the suggestions so far, I think the stars are going to be the ZT0562 and the Reate knives offerings. I liked the 0801, but honestly for the money, a Reate Horizon or District 9 (depenign on what your tastes are) are probably going to be better in reality. Some poeple don't like Reate for where they come from, but all of the ones I've handled, and the ones I've seen here, are perfect. The detents are excellent (hand-adjusted), the mill work is exceptional, and the action is insane, especially for the price point.

Just something to consider. And if you're interested in maybe stepping up into a Shirogorov, send me a PM and I'll see if I can help you find the one for you, because dealers and such are hard to find for them ;)

Echoil. I do like it. It just has some issues that frustrate me. It is a very smooth opener.

I am hesitant to sell it, but a knife that sits in the drawer is not one for me. Until I find something that I like a lot better, and the 562 may be it, I will not make a move.

I looked at one of those before I bought the Rift. It just did not really appeal, and I am not sure why. I don't feel like the axis lock and flippers really work well together, and that might have been the issue.

Roger,
I think I like the unassisted better now. I used to have a blackout, and thought I liked assisted until I started getting better knives. Now I like the good unassisted flippers better.

I will check these out. Thanks.

The Reate and the Al Mar look interesting. I really know nothing about either. I will do some reading on them. Thanks

Darn, the more I hear about reate, the more I like it. The features on the horizon are what I really like, but the blade shape of the hills is what I really want. It looks a lot like the spyderco I like.

Another +1 for the bulls

And another +1 for the hills:D

It doesn't hold a candle to some sticky g10, but the finger grooves and hump in the palm provide more than enough traction for my needs. Would it be the ideal knife for wet or slippery conditions? No, but I just can't imagine a scenario where the blade could realisticly be yanked from your hand.
Also I feel I should add that the only other flipper I've owned is a leek, so my opinions are 100% biased. I can't speak on zt or any other brand's behalf.

Strange, I bought the ZT0561 and really loved it. It is a real piece of art and a great blade but as an EDC it's just too much knife to carry everyday. If I still went in bad neighborhoods in NYC I'd be very comfortable with it. Actually have been thinking of trading for something more practical for me. Today I carried the ZT0562CF for the first time and found that to feel good in the pocket and not too heavy or large but do I really want to use that for anything that may come up ?. The ZT0550 is a great blade but also a real tank and since i know longer work in a body shop or travel in dangerous area's there's no need to carry tactical blades. I'm in Arizona where we no longer need any sort of permit to carry a concealed weapon (GUN) Getting back to EDC's, of late I've been using Spyderco's Manix and Domino and Benchmade's 470 3.5 inch Emissary which has great assisted action.
It's nice to have choices and most days I also carry a CRKT Ripple along with my main EDC.
I'm still new to collecting and just bought a Sharpmaker and learning to sharpen with something other then cheap flat stone so there's so much..I'm only sorry that I didn't get into this until I was passed 60.
It's good to be here and I've been home a lot recovering from some health issues so if I write a lot it's just cause I'm 1/2 nuts from so much bed rest and cabin fever.
Easy, Ed

I just had a Benchmade 300 with D2 steel. A very great looking knife and a fine blade but I had to return it. I found the size of the scales very uncomfortable in my hand and since I had the pocket clip on the right it made it even worse. Also, these days I want a knife which is more on the thin side, ( Spyderco Native, Manix, Domino) and too many more to mention. i bought it for an EDC because I like the color and blade steel but i had never had one in pocket..Not buying anymore knives without trying them on first !!

BUY a CRKT Ripple for $32. You will not be sorry and you'll always have something that won't hurt too much if you lose it..I have 2 ! one I use to learn to sharpen on..It makes a great gent's EDC or a 2nd. EDC to have on ya..

If you can do without a flipper, you ve already mentioned what is perhaps the best folding work knife on the market and a tremendous bargain for the price. The Spyderco Gayle Bradley. Fit and finish and design to rival Sebenzas and excellent work steel. Working in wet conditions, you will have to wipe off the blade with a bit of oil at night. But the m4 blade is relatively easy to sharpen and holds an edge longer than almost any steel in this price range. Or any price range for production knives. If you hold one you ll be sold.
