Looking for a food prep fixed blade

I want a dedicated food prep fixed blade. Up 'till now, I've mainly used an opinel due to the long, thin, straight edged blade. Getting food junk in folding mechanism is a pain to clean, however.

Does anyone have an opinion on a dedicated food prep fixed blade?

Here's some preferred criteria:
Cheap
Light Weight
Thin Blade
Low profile, i.e. a decent slim fitting sheath
I guess stainless steel would be a plus, but I can deal with Carbon.

I don't mean food prep, like cleaning animals. I mean food prep, like cut open packages, spread peanut butter, slice veggies, that sort of stuff.

The Opinel seems to work well. I'm thinking maybe just a cheap mora or something.

Thoughts?

For this kind of specific use stainless makes sense.

I would want mine to also be able to clean a fish and maybe small game, if need be.

My favorite kitchen and food prep knife. $15.00.

One of the best for what you describe was the Hai Hocho from Cold Steel. I don't know if they still make that model, but it was great as a camp kitchen type knife.

When it comes to spreading stuff I think a blade with a little more belly is better than a Mora. Maybe a small S/Steel Nessmuk would be the ideal !

You've described the intended function of a Nessmuk pretty perfectly.;)

OK Fid, hook me up with a nessmuk, but make sure it fits my first criteria "Cheap" :) j/k Using one of your Nessmuks to spread peanut butter would almost feel like I was demeaning it or something.

I think a thin nessmuk is the ticket. I use mine mainly for food prep and it works well.

Another choice might be the Grohmann Knife. I have never used/held one of these but I think they look pretty good.

The SWAK would be really good at general food prep, super thin and light.

The stuff tarmix posted is also a good choice in general, the Old Hickory stuff is carbon, but great at food prep.

hmm... and a plastic sheath that I good get all sorts of food guk on and not have to worry about it being tough to clean. That could work too. And it's free shipping

I find the Mora 2000 is great for food prep in the camp. It fits all your criteria except the sheath I think. Good stainless steel, light, not terribly expensive, and it is wide enough for spreads. You can solve the sheath issue and get a good low profile kydex sheath for it from Normark (On-Scene Tactical). As a bonus, it can double duty for survival if needed; which is what it was really designed for.
