Looking for a Good Bowie

I would hunt around for a Cold Steel LTC or Ghurka kukri on the exchange or e-bay. Cant think of a better option than that for your needs.

As suggested, I took a closer look at the KaBar heavy bowie and it will meet the criteria I set out. I also like the Ontario sp10 and the Becker bk9. I'm kinda leaning toward the sp10.

Thanks for all your help. I didn't know of any of these knives.

Becker Bk9...its 1" shorter then your spec but it takes some hardcore abuse, just check out what the guys have done in the becker sub-forum.

Cold Steel Trail Master

Yea i agreee with jazub here. I just (within 6 months) went through a huge search process for a large knife. For the money, the Trailmaster is hard to beat.

Break the tip off? Not likely. Keep/take an excellent edge - yep, does that. Swings easily/quickly - yep. The Trailmaster has a very nimble blade.

SP-10 is the one you want. Balanced like a hatchet but looks like a bowie.

ESEE Junglas for a modern workhorse look.

You could also check out the SP8 suvival machete, or the Spec Plus Survival Bowie, from Ontario. I`ve got them both and the SP10 Bowie too, and that`s really good and hardworking knives for the money, the survival bowie is a full flat grind so it slices and cuts really good.
