Looking for a good bushcraft knife.

Could someone please define what "Bushcrafting" is. For some of us who grew up in nature this term is somewhat weird. It sounds like city folks going into the fringes of a forest to play with their knives for no longer than a trip to the local diner.

I have many times wondered this same thing.
I've always thought it was a term for a new city folk trend.

You can get custom knives with good materials made for that price. Go that route.

ESEE Laser Strike-cheesy name aside, its a great knife.
What makes it a good "bushcraft" knife IMO:
-Comfortable handle(longer and more contoured than the ESEE 4 for example)
-Spearpoint makes for easy drilling
-Bowdrill divot in the handle slabs
-Emergency fire starter inside the handle
-Good 1095 steel
-Durable coating
-Excellent fit and finish
-The sheath is a very nice kydex, best sheath I have seen on a production knife yet ! Though I recommed getting the MOLLE back and the pouch, too.
The pouch even comes with a "altoids" tin, and both the MOLLE back and the pouch are very well made

Yeah that's pretty much it, but it's a lot better than the knives gathering dust in a drawer somewhere.

Ray Mears has an entire show called 'Bushcraft', and you can also look at other forums, such as bushcraftusa.com (fantastic).

WOW....that is somewhat rude..!!! Its just a word used to describe a topic...I mean i didn't coin the term and don't know who did..I wasn't raised in nature or by a pack of wolves but i like to get out and experience it...Sooo i guess that would make me pond scum or just some city fool enjoying nature...????

Interesting that South Africa comes up so much in the Wikipedia article as one of the sources of the term but for me as a South African the term is foreign. I've never in my 45 years used the term or even heard others around me use it. Maybe for some of us "bushcraft" is more integrated into normal life and therefore not something we think about as a craft (like something you do as a hobby of sorts).

Steve, I'm sorry if I offended you. Was not my intention to do so.

My short-list would include:
Fallkniven F1 or S1
Scrapyard 511
Swamp Rat Ratmandu
ESEE-4
Bark River Bravo-1
Becker BK-15/16/17.

If you want something a bit bigger and beefier, then the Becker BK-7 and BK-9, ESEE Junglas, Scrapyard 711 and 911, or Fallkniven A1.
