Hey guys, I´m looking for a GOOD blade, made from carbon steel, micarta handle, SATIN, and with a blade no less that 5.2" no more than 5.8", ideally under $300

So yeah, pretty specific huh? If you know of a good knife with these qualities, please reply!

Thanks in advance!

I love my bk10, it will take a little bit of work to meet those requirements though. Kabar makes micarta scales specifically for the Becker line, and the coating is easy to strip,it won't be satin but there is a light stone wash under the coating

Swamp Rat Ratmandu. I love mine! You can get it satin from the custom shop. Should squeeze in under $300 and be well worth it.

Bark River makes a lot of knives like that, such as the Bravo and Bravo 1.5. There are more. The Esee 5 is good old fashioned 1095. Good knife.

Bradshaw Blades here on BF. Casey can fit your your needs with a bunch of the knives he makes. Top notch blades and a great guy.

+1 on swamp rat...also +1 on the beckers. There something about stripping one yourself that makes it your own. Plus you can get three or four of them for $300 😄

They all seem pretty good. The reason I want a Satin carbon steel blade is because I want to force patina and acid edge it.

Contact David Farmer, a maker who posts regularly in our forums. His forged L6 blades are top notch, and one to meet your criteria would be well under $300.

His handle on the forums is dfarmerknives.

Do you actually want to do anything with it other than force a patina? Knowing that would help us answer your question.

I think Antdog just described the next knife on my radar, so I'll second ( or third?) his suggestion... Beckers are great, but they'll need a little work to get them where you want them... All well worth it, however. The only Barkie I have is cpm 154, so I can't comment on those. I've have my eye on a Fiddleback or two, you might give them a look, but they are close to/ maybe over your upper dollar amount.

Happy hunting, brother.

Eventually I want a swamp rat and a few bark rivers but must finish my becker collection first.

James Terrio makes some stunning knives too if you go custom I'd check him out.

TM Hunt makes a version of his Yuma with a longer blade. It's affectionately called the Tradewater. Made from 01 steel and tough as nails... Yea, it might be right up your alley.

Here's an example I stole from Todd's picture thread:

Obviously handle material, final specs and blade finish are completely up to you since it's a custom.

ESEE 4 Uncoated. Has micarta handles as well.

EDIT: I just saw your length requirement.........But really, what are you gonna need that extra little bit for anyway?

I have an esee 5 and love it.
A very thick, tough knife.
People either love or hate them. I'm on the love end.

I decided for the ESSE-6, decided to add an extra inch for cutting down huizaches. Thanks for all the awesome suggestions!

Tacohunter, what would--and does--concern me when considering two such knives is the thickness of the blades and the grinds. The rmd, I think, is more similar to my bk7; the 5 is more similar in thickness to my tglb, but I believe the grind is different. My bk7 is more of a slicer; the Busse, less so... But, I use the Busse far more for "big knife" tasks and use a small fixed or folder for the tasks requiring a finer blade. Hope that helps in some way.
