Looking for a good carbon steel, fixed blade!

Tacohunter, what would--and does--concern me when considering two such knives is the thickness of the blades and the grinds.

I do agree on that, and I made some more research on the Swamp Rats, and now I´m between the Rodent-6 and the ESEE-6...

Check out David Winston's Custom Knives. Most of his fixed blades are under $300 bucks - They're very well made knives with a great fit and finish.

A great user knife with a satin finish and micarta grips at 5 inches is the Koster Bushmaster . It's 3V. More an alloy steel than true carbon ( 1060, 1070, 1980, 1095). It will resist corrosion pretty well as long as you take care of it so no changes to the steels finish is needed.

I bought a Big Chris Bushcrafter in 4V that is a bit shorter than you want. I know he makes some in 5 inch range and in several steels. Anything Big Chris is worth a look, and more IMO.

Like Phil Wilson he will get all the performance available in whatever steel he is using. You can count on that.

I agree with boozoo chavis. Look at a custom, hand made knife by David Winston, Gene Ingram, Charles May or Bob Dozier. You will be happy with any of them as they are much better then any of the mass produced knives.

I love that elk handled Winston (top knife) as I have one just like it. They could be twins.
