Hi, I'm Mike and this is my first time on BladeForums. I was directed here by my stabhappy friend.

Lately I have become tired of my everyday carry pocket folders. I have been looking for an alterative in neck knives. I need one that is suitable to use as a work knife, but can also double in a camping role or even in self-defense purposes. Was wondering if anyone could help me find some possibilities?

Thanks.

RAT Cutlery Izula, 'nuff said

Izula in Pink, this way, if you happen to drop it in high grass, weeds etc... you'll be able to find it easily

I'm of the opinion that the Boker Subcom FB is the best neck knife ever, but if you want to also use it in a camping role, the Izula would be a great choice.

People say the Izula is perfect because it holds an edge forever and is strong enough to do light prying with.

I have never personally used one, but I trust the majority this time.

The izula and BK11 are made from the same steel. Both have a skeletonized (or partially) frame which makes 550 chord wrapping a cinch and reduces weight. I don't own an Izula but I own two other RAT Cutlery knives that I swear by. I love the BK11, it's a rediculous ammount of knife in a very compact package. And for what I've seen from the izula it is about the same. You will get a finer finish and edge from the RAT. Kabar makes a fine quality and trusted product but RAT goes the 110 percent for the shaving sharp edge and nukeproof finish. I'd trust both with my life and my thin, weightless BK11 will forever be a part of my kit. I can't justify spending the 50 dollars for an izula right now as I am jobless, but you simply cannot go wrong with a RAT. Or either choice for that matter. Heck if I had a job I'd have multiples of both.

RAT Izula or TOPS Shango. I've been EDCing my Izula for almost a year now, and I wouldn't be without it. Just got the Shango today, so you can look forward to an in-depth review later.

Depending on price range: If youre not sure how much you'll wear it and dont want to spend a boatload to find out, get a Buck Hartsook. Got mine buy it now for 11.99 plus like 2.95 shipping on the bay(although more common around $20). Held in a kydex sheath and its a skeleton knife made of coated s30v. For $50-60 I agree with stefan listed above, get the Buck kaala-also s30v uncoated. Also a little longer at 3 1/8 as opposed to 1 7/8"

Welcome to BFC. I remember my first post was about neck knives too. Since that I had several but the best one so far was Handiman by RJ Martin:
