Ahh, the search for a decent fixed blade - the very reason I came to this place all those years ago.
I used an abused a Cold Steel SRK for a year before getting a Becker CU7 (thinking I needed something longer). This was stolen and I replaced it with an Ontario RAT7.
I prefer the RAT7 over the becker although many don't. The RAT has a better handle and ergos for me. I've battoned it and chopped with it without any problems.
Lately I've gone away from the sort of activities that require a large fixed blade (hard core trips and/or fixed base camping) and have been into fast/light walking and mountain biking. I take the spyderco temperance on these and have come to appreciate what an excellent knife it is. I seem to be making the gradual transition to smaller blades than many older outdoorsmen do.........
