I'm trying to find out what is a good folding knife no less than a 3 inch blade and straight edge. This maybe the wrong place to ask this but I feel you guys really now you stuff. Thanks

Benchmade griptillian or mini griptillian, if the griptillian is too long.

I am fairly new to this site ( other than 2 years of lurking and enjoyin pics and stories) , but if you are not looking to shell out 100$ . . For aprox. 30$ you could pick up An Ontario Rat Model 1 . . Tough , reliable . . IMHO best bang for your buck .

I love my Case sodbuster, I carried a skyline for a while but was less than impressed. For roughly the same price the sodbuster is a far better knife.

I'm a firm believer that a folding knife should be a quick access simple slicing tool and that all other tasks should be left to fixed blades. I've learned a few hard lessons but in recent years I haven't paid more than 30 bucks for a folder.

The RAT-1 is a great outdoors knife-I don't like the handle much but the action is good, F&F are good, the steel is good and the blade design is great.

The Byrd Raven offers a comfy handle, good F&F, good action, good steel and a not-so-good blade design.

The Svord Peasant is my favorite folder right now-fantastic L6 blade steel, fantastic blade design, functional action and comfy handle. F&F is so-so, take some time with sandpaper and a sharpening stone and you'll have an awesome knife.

Any Swiss Army Knife....

A Mercator 55...

Here are some decent/good starter knives

Ontario RAT Model 1 - $30

Kershaw Skyline - $35

CRKT M16-01KZ - $32 (Big 5 carries them for $15)

Ka-Bar ZK Kharon - $30

Spyderco Tenacious - $35

HK/Benchmade Vex - $35

I love my D2 Mini-Grip. The Skyline, I also am not that impressed with it, but I do really like the Leek as a good slicey cheap folder.

depends on several things:
type of lock (back, bolt, frame, liner, none)
type of duty (GP cutting duties or "hard use")

Victorinox Forester
Ontario RAT 1
Kershaw Rake
Kabar Mule
Spyderco Delica, Endura, Paramilitary 2
Buck 110/112
Any folder by ZT is you want to spend some $$ on a nearly bulletproof design
Svord or Opinel #10 if you're looking for incredibly sharp and aren't planning on abusing it

Since Becker doesn't make a folder and this is the Becker forum it probably is the wrong place. You might want to try in the "General Knife Discussion" forum. I'm sure you'll get some great advise here, but you might get more advise in the general forum.

That being said, I've carried a Buck Crosslock 180 for over 10 years and love it.

I am of the firm opinion that the large Buck Vantage is currently the best US made folder for the $$ spent. The Keshaw Leek being in second. with the Benchmade Griptillian in Third. Why? Value.

The Vanatage can be had three different blade steels and various handle materials/finishes from about $20 to $79. You can go paper Micarta in 420 HC on the low end to a full black tactical badass model in in machined G-10 in CPM-S30V. The overall design and size is about perfect for an everyday EDC working folder.

I have the $20 Black Paperstone model in 420 HC. I put a convex micro bevel on the blade and the thing cuts like a light saber / It also stays sharp longer than it should. It's a well built and tight. Can't beat 'em for the $$ ,IMHO and they're made in Idaho, USA.

Since pictures are encouraged here-

Folded Buck Vantage at 3.6 ounces besides a BK11 Necker package at 4.5 ounces-

Both blades ready to Rock.. Blade length is about identical and note the four finger handle length on that Vantage.
