Looking for a great 9mm Glock

FFL... federal firearms license... required to legally transfer both ship and receive firearms by mail/commercial carrier, unless being returned to original maker for repair ...an ATF 4473 form is maintained by the receiving entity

in Florida the charge is typically $45 or 10% of cost of firearm, plus the $8 phone call to Fla Department of Law Enforcement for background check

If you have your heart set on a glock you cannot go wrong with the 19 for all purpose carry. 15+1, beautiful. However, if you want a subcompact for those summer months where concealment is a little tougher get the 26 (10+1).

I have heard many different opinions on which Glock is the best. I have heard the Glock 19 is very good. Pistol will be used as self defense and target practice on the weekends when time permits. Any suggestions?
Like others have said, if the Glock fits your hand well, you really can't go wrong with one. They are reasonably priced, acceptable accurate and about as durable and reliable a firearm as you can find.

When you say "self defence", are you referring to concealed carry or home defence? If its going to be a bedside gun, then size is no real issue and either the G17 or G19 is a fine choice. If CCW is what you are looking for, a full size (G17) or near-full sized (G19) gun is concealable, but not as easily as a subcompact like the G26. The larger pistols can of course be carried concealed, and people do all the time. It can be more difficult in hotter climates where lighter clothing is the norm, however, so you might consider the G26 in that case.

Gen 4? So are there 4 different types of Glock 17's I can choose from?
Well, if you consider used guns, too. The Gen 4 would be the one currently in production, but the others would still be available on the used gun market. I've still got a Gen 1 G17 that has thousands of rounds through it and still works fine.

Does the Glock 17 come with a holster or am I going to have to drop some more cash on a holster?
No, few handguns come with holsters. Glock makes an inexpensive, plastic "belt slide" style holster (called the Sport/Combat Holster) that you can pick up for less than $15. There are any number of aftermarket makers with offerings from $20 for decent synthetic models from Fobus, Blackhawk or Uncle Mikes, up to $100+ for quality leather holsters from makers like Safariland, Galco, etc.

LOLOL no handgun comes with a holster... if you plan on using this holster a lot i would advise you to drop some $$ on it. most good comfortable ones are 50 bucks and up. also sounds like you have very little experience in guns. i would practice practice practice.

To answer your question, the 19,perfect size, not too big and not too small,it's juuust riiight!Me,I'm a Springfield XD,or Sig kind of guy.;)

Hi everyone. I am in the market for a great handgun. I have heard many different opinions on which Glock is the best. I have heard the Glock 19 is very good. Pistol will be used as self defense and target practice on the weekends when time permits. Any suggestions?

Thanks

p.s. sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I will continue my search to try and find the correct place for it.

Well it depends. Are you gonna carry it concealed? If so there are things to consider. The Glock 26 is more concealable in its stock configuration. But that's gonna leave your pinky hangin off the bottom because of the short grip. Some guys put mag extensions on them to fill in the grip. At that point... might as well carry the Glock 19 as it's about the same size as a 26 with grip extensions. So... no finger extensions... get the Glock 26 cause it's more concealable. If you're gonna get extensions... no point in getting a 26 get the 19. If you aren't going to conceal it and are just gonna use it as a night stand gun and range gun... get the Glock 34. It's got a longer sight radius and is hell on wheels. And you can still compete with it in most competitions. And if you decide to hang a light on the end of it the 34 balances well with a light on it. Plus it's got a fullsized grip and gives ya more weapon to hold on to. This is all MHO of course.

I guess it carried over from the 1911's, but the 45acp is still my favorite cartridge, so I edc a Glock 36. I did carry a 21 IWB for about a year or so, and it was fine. I'm 6'2" 220 pounds and with a good holster it was no problem.
However, I decided I really prefer the 36.

The 36 is my EDC as well. Best gun Glock makes IMHO. Wonderful CCW.
