looking for a hell of a sharp knife!!

All you need is a Spyderco.

You can't go wrong with a Spyderco.

Get yourself that Para-Military. That's the next knife to get on my list. I love those things. After handling one in person a few weeks ago I'm going to have to go back and get one :D

Cheers,
David

I have to agree that a good carbon steel scandanavian ground fixed blade is one of the sharpest knives one can own.

I think our student knife nut is looking for a folder. I like the paramilitary but the blade shape is more EDC opening boxes. mail and not so camp chorish for my taste. If your looking for a good EDC in the city then I like the paramilitary but for a more verstile do most everything I like the full size Ritter Grip better if these are withing your budget.

For about 1/2 the money, very similar knives are the Delica and regular Griptillian. I have both of these and like them equally but the Delica is more of a city EDC and the Grip is more outdoor carry.

If you are on a very tight budget, try the standard Opinel #8 in carbon or stainless steel...both are scary cutters!

oh ya, go plain edge. Serrated is not nearly as versatile and combo edge is a waste of a knife!

pretty much all knives will be sharp enough.

if you actually tell us what you plan to use the knife for, that might help guide our recommendations.

hello guys, thanks for all the info!!!

I haven't answered in your suggestions, i was asleep (was night here) :)

Anyhow..The Strider was out of my budget, but i'm still looking for something spidy-BM-... That price-cathegory :)
And yes, sorry for not including i want a folder, my mistake!

Also..since i live in Europe, prices are a litle bit higher then in the states :D
Anyhow, i'm going to choose between a MINI-skirmish and a ParaMillie...(maybe a manix)
Virtually no way of handling them before i buy...

For those who own one (or both :) ?): how do the "blade-thicknesses" compare? I ask, because i alreday own a BM 690 and the reason i carry my endura or grip instead is because of the 'thicker' bladeshape of the 690..
This time, I think of the millie (parramillie coz of the legal issues) because the blade profile seems to just scream "sharp"!!
The Mini Skirmish attrackts me because of the overall look..

Ok..that's it again for now,
see ya,
Davy

mini skirmish. it looks better and i prefer it's lock over the compression.

I consider my spydie Calypso jr to be as sharp as a knife can be and my fallkniven U2 to be a bit sharper. If you want something less expensive the EKA 38 carbon steel is a good cutter

When I lived in Europe I found the price of US made knives to be a lot higher in Europe. For example, a knife that cost $150 in the US would cost 250 Euros in Germany. I was just wondering if prices have fallen now due to the devaluation of the Dollar?

Why don't you buy a knife from an American and have them ship it to you? Shipping is not too bad to Europa if you go the slow route. Find something you like and contact the seller before you bid or agree to buy and most people will ship to other countries if you pay all the shipping cost and maybe offer a little extra for the trouble. If a $150 knife is about $250 Euros, that is a lot more than shipping is going to be.

In fact, why don't you decide what you want and then put an add in the wanted section of the classifieds on this site? I bet you get a good deal that way.

Here are my votes in addition to the Spyderco Centofante III,
Spyderco Calypso Jr.
Spyderco Para Military
Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Military

Al Mar Shrike, this one is my all time favorite knife. I paid less than $120 new for it and it outclasses every other knive I have ever owned. The Shrike is VG-10 flat ground and super sharp. It is also one of the most comfortable knives in the hand. It is pure class and quality. You have to hold one to really get how well made it is.

Spydies are made in japan! ;)

The mora knives are really sharp. They make a perfect knife to keep in the backpack. Light weight, very inexpensive and cut like nothing else out there! Next fixed blade in cutting performance that I know of are the Blackjacks and Bark River knives.

thanks again!

W.T. Beck.. i think prices haven't changed a thing since the devaluation! :s i could be wrong, but still..prices here are way higher then in the US

Also.. i found a just about perfect thing now!! I found myself a used sebbie on a belgium knife forum!!! One of the flat grounds, mayonized and all :D
Price i find was really good, +/- 350 euro's, so it's almost thesame as buying one new in the US, no?
Considering the European price of a new skirmish, i think i didn't do a bad bargain here :) Coz i do expect (from reading here) that the sebbie is "in a class of it's own"?!

:) it's now on it's way to me... i'll be delighted to post a revieuw in the CR section after i get it

Thanks again for all the opinions!!!! i think now the calypso might be my next purchase (for beatable EDC ;) )

See you!
Davy

Beck write: "When I lived in Europe I found the price of US made knives to be a lot higher in Europe. For example, a knife that cost $150 in the US would cost 250 Euros in Germany. I was just wondering if prices have fallen now due to the devaluation of the Dollar?"

Not at all!
Still extremely big difference (tax mainly !)
So most of us buy usual US knife over the internet and request on the bill to be writen : "gift - no value" to avoid the +22% hehehe :D

Another vote here for Bark River! The fit and finish is excellent, and with the selection you should find what your looking for. Lifetime guarantee and the convex edge will cut you just looking at it! Scott

i have mine in my pocket right now!!! i just got it tha other day and i hafta say i like it more than i do my full size skirmish!!! lock up is solid as hell, the edge is up to bm standards.the clip is also stronger than the one on the full size skirmish as well. the action is very very smooth overall i am very happy with it and now it will be in rotation with my strider sng!!!-fed

is an EKA Swede 88. No clip, no thumb stud, no zytel, no screams of terror in the office but that thin Sandvik blade cuts like nothing else I have. For heavier tasks I keep a small neck knife on my keychain/carabiner. But when it come to pure cutting the 88 is hard to beat.
