Looking for a knife of D2 steel - reccomendations?

learning how to sharpen is more important than any magic steel.

That said, I love Carbon V, any carbon steel will take a keen edge! 52100 wow! seriously scary edge!

But it is fun exploring the world of knife steels. One thing that sucks about knowing how to sharpen and loving it, The whole steel debate becomes irrevelant.
 
The D2 used in the current AFCK 806 can hold a sharp edge quite well. Better than the ATS, M2, 154 CM versions. I have used all of these models and am quite happy with the current Axis 806 D2. The M2 can take a real keen edge. But is a bear to sharpen. The steel is harder than most tool steels I' ve ever used. It is notable that BM has changed their edge bevel angles over the years to what is now a workable edge. Perhaps this has contributed to easier sharpening and a sharper edge.

Doziers D2 and its heat treat is hard to match.
