Not quite Northern California, but you can contact Mike Vagnino.
He is in Visalia.... I don't think that you'll find a better teacher in the area,
His number is, 559-636-0501

I have been trying to learn to make knives for a couple years now. It's a hobby for me at this point. I use stock removal method and I work out of my garage. I have most all of the tools I need and some nice ones. I would be happy to talk with you and help you out if I can. You are welcome to visit me in Roseville some time if you would like.

There is a guy who posts as "Nixelplix" here on BF. He makes knives and he lives in Chico. He mostly hangs around in the Balisong Forum here. Perhaps you could make friends with him.

I visited Oldwolf's shop one day and had my first experience forging a knife. I also watched them make some damascus while I was there. I really enjoyed it and it was a good learning experience. I want to come along if you do that :)

I'll second this quote about Mike Vagnino. Fantastic teacher, good person. Heck, I drive 300+ miles one way for his instruction.:thumbup::thumbup:

Hi Rugur,
Long time no hear. How you been? You're closer to him than I.

Are we having a hammer in this year?

:) Hi. I'm doing good. I saw you got a new grinder.
Count me in on the next hammer-in. I'll be there. That was great last year. Thanks!

Yep, we finally got the NWGrinder built and it's great. Love it.

Guess we better start a new thread on the hammer in and see what the response is. I know we have a good dozen of us around here,
