Looking for a maker for my first custom

This is being reposted here after a suggestion is another thread...

I was wondering if the group could point me in the direction of a few quality makers for my first custom. I have a few ideas on a knife that I would want, and I could use some help finding the right individual.

In general terms, the knife would be a fixed blade 4.75" in a slightly modified drop point, with an equivalently sized handle but with a larger diameter for larger hands. I can get more specific when I start talking with the craftsman.

If the knife works out, I would more than likely want to get 2 (possible 3) more made just like it with name engraving on the blade.

I understand that custom knives will cost more, and I am willing to pay for quality.

Thanks!

Brian

I have a few already made up and the wife is thinking I should sell some. I use mostly damascus and hardwoods. I also have a few built from Nichols files. I do mostly drop points and I confess to having very large hands and for some reason keep making knives that fit my hands. Most of mine are priced around $200, a few older ones less, a few with ivory and the like a bit more. There are also a plenty of other excellent makers here to chose from. If you would like to look at some of mine I could email some photos and prices

Brian, why don't you try drawing the knife you're wanting to have made and then posting the picture here in Shop Talk along with the materials you prefer and the price range you expect to pay. I think that way you'd have better luck finding someone to make the knife for you. If you have problems putting your idea to paper, just look at knives in books and online and eventually you'll find one similar to the one you want, you can trace it and then make a few small changes and get your knife.
Hope this helps!!!

How hard is it to work with mammoth ivory? I want to change the scales on my small sebenza from ironwood to mammoth ivory. Suggestions please? Thanks.
