Looking for a Marlin spike - Buck #315?

OLD THREAD ALERT...

IIRC, the whatchamacallit at the end where Haebbie has his lanyard was spring loaded.
Is that correct? If so, why?

Thanks!

Yes, BA, it is spring loaded. It operates the lock of the marlin spike.

Best,
Haebbie

Goose,

Is only spring loaded in the sense it cams the regular spring which lets the spike open and lock.
I would have to look up the proper sailing name for the device, lets just call it the shackle ring. It actually is there to also slip over flat ends of threaded pins in the shackles on the rigging to remove them for various sailboat activities.......anymore than that and you will have to talk to stainz a real seadog.

So it does three things, open spike, opens pins in shackles, and is a handy place to weave cords and lines to that are attached to you someplace where you don't drop the darn thing overboard..........300

PS Hawkeye, Goose I almost kissed the prom queen but this one is just plain yellow. Here is a close-up of the 'cam', you can see where it pivots pushing the spring down allowing the spike to pivot. This was done because spike is heavily twisted during use and needs to lock. Blade is regular slipjoint action using same spring, but is stout.......
