I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this but I have been searching for a mentor near my area to help with me learning and growing in the knife craft.
I'm reaching out to see if I can locate someone who would be willing to share their time and experience. I am particularly interested in Stock removal.

Thank you for any assistance you are able to provide me with learning more and growing.

Welcome to the forum!

If I was still in the knife making game as much as I was last year I'd be more than happy to give some pointers on what I know - but I've since moved to Waterloo and can only go back to my shop every once in a while back in the city. For stock removal makers though one that comes to mind is Aaron Gough, but he now uses mostly CNC to produce his blades. Have you tried getting in touch with him? I would say that in terms of finding information on the dos and don'ts of knife making, BladeForums is an invaluable resource - the sticky thread is a great place to start.

Good luck on your knife making journey!

Following shop talk shop on blade forums took my knife making to a new level and kept me from spending money on stuff I didn't need. Truly a great resource, I never actually met a knife maker until this year. I have business trips down to Toronto every couple of months if you ever want to meet up or need some blade steel I could help you out that way. Contact me at themeatrobot at gmail . com

Really go through the stickys before you start buying equipment.

look up wally hayes... he's not too far from you and you could do way worse than having a ABS Master smith giving you a few pointers. I was in contact with him to learn more about folders but i live 8 hours from him and just couldn't make it work. he's a really personable guy and obviously a damn fine maker so he would be my suggestion. Also as mentioned Aaron Gough is a great maker and close to you too. look him up on the ole youtube first and you'll get a great idea of what he's all about.

Thank you for the insight. I have watched a lot of Aaron's videos. I didn't know he lives near me. I'll have to investigate that. I'll keep checking forums for information and to learn more.
