Looking for a modern edc around 50 or under

Do you mean a custom kershaw? What kind of places would you get that done, from kershaw directly, or after you've bought it you bring it to a knifemaker?

Lol... no, i mean a custom folder. I started with a Kershaw... then i got 7 more, then i bought a ZT, then i got a custom Zermeno Azrael, and now i have a half dozen custom and semi-custom folders, and another 5 that are customized. I also have 30 or so high end fixed blades.

it's an addiction. I can't beat it

for opening packages I would recommend Kershaw Leek. the blade profile ( a little bit wharncliffe ) makes it a great cutter. it also slices well. But however, the tip is prone to breaking but this depends on what you cut with.

also another vote for FFG Spyderco Delica. simply the best all-round EDC knife.

Seki City Japan, but a very fine quality knife. I have two Delicas and one mini grip and the ergos on the Delica are much better than the mini grip for my hands at least. I can get a four finger grip on the Delica but only get three fingers on the mini grip. Both are great knives and will both get the job done, but the Delica is more comfortable to me.

Love my Delica. Great knife, wider blade than the Chill and very light.
They come in ffg and saber grind too. Cost about $6-7$ over your $50 budget though but a lot more knife than the Chill with all due respect.

Personal preference. Tip up can sometimes open when you pull out of the pocket if it has a thumb stud that catches, but most seem to prefer tip up. I don't care myself.

Ok, I think I'll pick up a mini grip.

does anybody have opinions on serrated vs non serrated, and clip carrying?

I dont exactly understand the difference between tip up/tip down, is it just personal preference?

Mini grip, persistence, rat 1 or 2 or skyline. Mini is about 60 for a user on the forum I. Good condition. Thee skyline is very nice especially for its nice size aand carry. Not too big or small. Its the only flipper that I like. If you want something with some old school flavor a crkt kit Carson is really nice.

Another vote for the Kershaw Cryo. That thing is tough as hell and yes, Mr. Wayne, it does come in black.

I'm a massive fan of the Ontario rat model 2. Extremely high quality (considering its low price or not)

Kershaw Leek, comes in an all black version (1660ckt). Assisted opening with a safety lock so no inadvertent deployment. Slim, very pocket friendly design. I use mine daily for the same things you have the need for.

What he said.

A little embarassed to admit but I went on a NutnFancy playlist run on knives over this summer. It was feverish and ugly, I was ordering knives even after the one that I ordered hadn't arrived yet. Until my wife realized that I had a drawer full of EDC's.

I picked up a dozen knives or so via trade and online. Anyhow, I gave the Sog Flash away to a friend. It's fun, small and useful, I would pick up an OD2 over it anyday. The OD2 didn't have bladeplay and the FFG blade on the OD2 is more useful. PS in case you were wondering why I didn't mention the Leek, I never took to it. The scales were slippery and the tip was very delicate on the Leek.

If you are getting something that size get like a Kershaw Chill, CRKT Drifter in G10, a slipjoint,Spyderco UKPK, Spyderco Salt or a RAT 2. Out of all of those I kept a Drifter in steel and am very attached to it I don't know why. But the Rat 2 is definitely the best out of what I just listed overall. The most convenient size wise is the Chill, Salt (which I never owned but have handled) and Rat 2. None of the last three have any faults either. But the OD2 definitely is the funnest out of them all. It has this odd lever system that works great. The Chill is the most pocketable out of them all. Anyhow trying out all of the small blades I ended up getting into slipjoints which serve my purpose well.
Does anybody have input about the SOG aegis/ flash I or II?

For a smaller knife like the Mini-Grip, I personally prefer plain-edge for my EDC uses. I've had some Benchmades with partially serrated edge, and they are plenty sharp. It's just a matter of personal preference. Same with tip up/down. In the case of the Mini-Grip, though, they are tip-up only.

I like the Flash I. It was in my EDC rotation for a while before others took its place. It's so thin, compact, and lightweight that I don't even notice it in pocket. It does have some very minor side-to-side play, but the only time I notice it is if I'm bending the knife to see if there's play. I carried a Flash II for a little while too, but for that size, there are others I like more. A co-worker carries a tanto Aegis, and it seems pretty decent. I like the regular Aegis blade shape more (generally not a fan of tantos).
