Kinda like what Cold Steel is selling in their spike line-up, only with a better sheath and steel. Something simple and small, no frills. Upper limit: ideally, 100 bucks.

Thanks for the ideas, links especially welcome. :D

Don't want to hijack the thread, but I too am interested in something along those lines - something I can wear while out jogging that would be lightweight and that I could have ready at a moment's notice...

Eric Blair of Toxic Toys made some nasty Ti neckers a while back. I have one, not sure I'm going to part with it though. Nice to have the Ti for when I get sweaty running.

Have you looked at the Hide Away knifes? Great product and if you don't want a fancy one they're about $70. I've been thinking of going that way myself.

The Cold Steel spike isn't bad for the price. I'm pretty impressed with mine. Not a daily user but I think it's great for what it is.

I would recommend looking for a Ti tent peg. Pretty cheap. And the kydex work is pretty easy for it too.

I think Boker has what you might be looking for, with a lot of additional carry options included. They blade used to also come in a drop point but I think only tanto now. They also sell it in different steel quality. Don't go cheap. Get the 440C, nothing less. This is a fine system and deserves good steel. I'd also go with the black blade to keep the light reflection to a minimum. Stealth is an advantage. I'm told the neck sheath uses magnets. Sounds interesting.

Here is the link to the Boker/Bud Nealy Knife system on the Boker web site. They can be purchased on the web (not from Boker) for about $120.

And here is where you can buy one:

A very cool little system for the money and Bud Nealy is a well respected designer. I've considered getting one many times but I keep buying other knives instead.

Good Luck

try the randall burke syphon. I don't suppose you can carry push daggers right? the cuda arc lite clipped to the back of your pants is also quite good. I wouldn't use ti w/o a carbide edge....the edge will not stay sharp for long.

there are a few things on this site that fit the bill.
Ti Spike, Perrin Street bowie, etc.

I would think that any neck knife is going to necessitate a concealed weapons license (CCW, CWP, whatever they call them in your neck of the woods) to be legally carried.

Cold Steel does sell that nylon spike (I am very partial to it; I think it's really cool, but I have no experience actually putting it to use and I have not tested it on any materials). For like $5 or $6 including sheath and ball chain, can't go wrong.

I can imagine that a Ti Spike like Szabo sells might get a realllllly bad treatment for you by the cops/courts if you were pressed into having to use it. I would just as soon have a neck knife to use than "an assassin's ice-pick" as it would probably end up called in the newspaper...

The Becker necker . Its a little chunky . Not expensive at all . Kydex sheath works great . Much shorter than c.s. spike which is a little long for a neck carry .

Although it's coated, the Becker Necker is made of carbon steel. I myself would prefer a stainless steel or titanium if I planned to wear it close to the body.

That is one major factor that's kept me from buying the BK, even relatively inexpensive as it is.

wrong!

You have no idea what you are talking about.

You don't need a permit for anything except a pistol. The only restriction is Autos are illegal to carry, and Brass knuckles are illegal.

I think it depends on where you're at. Local knife laws vary. I just ordered a Ranger "Little Bird" because it's under the legal CC size limit and because I can no longer cary openly at work.

I would advise you to look into the Spyderco swick. Very positive grip, extremely good penetration, good slashing capability, great sheath !

Amen to that! Although not along the lines of a "shiv", the SWICK is, IMHO, the best neck carry I've ever handled. Light, short, but with just the right blade length and superb Spyderco ergos to make it truly a joy to handle.

You make a valid point .If you tended to sweat a lot all the time or otherwise got the knife wet a lot I would agree .

I have to tell you that all my tools get rusty . I could store them in oil and get rust . Must be negative ions or something . L:O:L
So far the becker is rust free . I have battoned with it and slightly scratched its coating . I have scraped/whittled fresh wet wood with it and just put it away after a quick wipe . So far no rust . I will say though its a fairly chunky knife . Very small handle for the stoutness of the blade . I have learned to adapt and like it . I also have small hands . This knife may not be for everyone . I have rounded out the handle with a double layer of tightly wound strong coard , This helps a lot . This also gives you cordage for an emergency situation . ooo

if you can find a livesay woo they are a pretty good knife for the money. I also have a becker necker and like it a lot. later, ahgar
