Looking for a new daypack

A few months ago I had a chance to buy a new USMC Issue Tactical One-Day Assault Pack for $40, but didn't like the camo color. Looking back it was probably a mistake because it was a heck of a bag for the price.

What else should I be looking at in the 20-25L range, solid color, really well built, durable, with good zippers? Can that be found under $110? This will be an EDC to work, trips, and weekend hikes.

I like my Maxpedition Kodiak, because it's a big one for a Gearsling. ,, .

north Face Borealis is a good one. I have had mine for about 6 months now. It is my work pack and I have done some dayhikes with it. Hold plenty and non-tactical looking. Mine is gray

Fuori,

For the size and price you quoted. I'd be tempted to give this one a shot.

Not as obnoxious as many modern day packs color wise. Seems to have a good layout and reasonable space.

I have a Deuter Guide Lite 32+ coming my way as a Christmas present.

I plan on using it as my winter daypack. But it is slightly bigger, and a bit more expensive. Plus it is bright red, so they can find my body in the spring when the snow melts.

The Deuter is a great pack. But if you're not carrying skis or shoes, the bean may well be the better option. Because of its layout.

5.11 Rush 12 is 24L and I see several listings at $99.
Vanquest has some closeout deals on their website. Google and youtube them, some well made products apparently. IBEX 20 (20L) for $99 or IBEX 30 (30L) for $113. Free shipping $99+.

Kelty Redwing 32 Pack
The pack's torso size is 15.5" – 21".

I have the Redwing 40 and 50

Kelty Redwing are solid performers
They have side cinches so the pack compresses to very small when not carrying big loads, but expands and will carry bed rolls on the outside
Very high quality packs at very good prices
The difference in price for the 32, 44, and 50 are minor, so the 50 is the best deal
They all have thru sleeves behind the outside pockets for skies and the like (I carry my umbrella there)

The 44 is also good as a day pack and an extended day pack
I would go with the 44 as it compresses down and expands

ATS makes their 2.5 and 2.6, it's a thinner version of the Lightfighter RAID. The 2.6 comes in solid colors or 2 tones that blend in and don't look very militant, and have no MOLLE webbing. They're made from great material (US sourced 500D nylon) and are sewn properly. They're also designed well, it has 4 cinch straps and the shoulder straps come out of the face of the back and the load lifters allow it to be carried higher on your back if that's what you want. I've been using one for years, in the woods or at the office, I get a ton of compliments and the 'pack shows no sign of wear.

Osprey. Several day packs available.

Carry one and you may well never carry another brand. Just read the reviews. They are well deserved.

I've had my osprey talon 22 for a few years now. I can't say enough good things about it! It's perfect for edc, day hikes, or weekend travel. Mine has held up really well over the years. I personally dislike the tactical look of many packs.

Thank you all for the help and advice so far. I've been looking at each of the recommendations and am trying to narrow them down, but there are a lot of good suggestions.

Osprey Daylite.. Has served me well over the past 5yrs.. John

I use a Maxpedition Condor II and have nothing but good things to say about it. It's a smaller pack, but that is deceiving as you can fit quite a bit in it. You can also attach numerous additional pouches to it with it's webbing on every surface.

Black Diamond makes some nice Day packs, some have full suspension (Hip belt and frame) and are really comfortable. Some people find a full suspension on a day pack over kill, but I prefer it. Got one last spring on close out and really really like it.

I have a Max. Confir 2 and now I got a Kodiak Gearsling, I like the size and yet it's a sling,. ,, .

I find 25l to be too small for weekend travel or for the woods. The only exception is my hunting pack but I'm generally not too deep in the woods when hunting and carry only the bare essentials. I find the 32-35L range much more versatile. My actual day pack is a 43L Jannd Zoor Alpinist. I'm big so my clothing is big and when leading, I usually carry emergency gear.

I also think the panel loader vs top loader issue is worth some thought. Panel loaders for EDC and top loaders for backcountry.

I most often am carrying watercolor painting gear
So I go for a Panel loader so I can get out my paper and drawing board and painting supplies

I have several day packs from Mountain Hardwear, REI, Gregory, 511, Camelbak, and Kelty. My favorite for comfort and versatililty is the Kelty. I have the 32 and 50 as well. The 32 is great for day hike and EDC.
