Recommendation? Looking for a new EDC folding knife

I'm starting to gather that that might be the case.

Yep. We don't generally like to talk people out of buying knives but this is one of the few exceptions. Cardboard is tough on a pocket knife.

The above knife $120 + folding utility knife $15 + some extra blades $10 = right at your budget with tax.

When in doubt, buy 2 knives that cover your needs.

Whatever you decide, good luck and post what you get.

CRKT M16. This knife comes in a lot of variations, blade shapes, finishes. The one I have has a whole raft of features I can’t stand: tanto, serrations, black blade. I hate this knife. I only have it because the previous owner of a car I bought last fall left it behind. I had an M21 with a lot of the same features, and didn’t miss it when a junkie relative stole it to buy drugs.

However, this knife goes through cardboard like crap through a goose.

Will do. I'm thinking that I might order a Finch Holliday or Artisan Cutlery Centauri. It's pricer than I was looking for, but it's handle looks much more comfortable than the Littoral's. Either way I'll post up what I decide to get. Some time down the road I'll probably pick up a fixed blade to throw in the glove box. At least I can just grab a utility knife off the shelf at Home Depot. Thanks for all of the advice.
