Looking for a new fixed blade for camping.

I agree with Cobra. Its all in personal preference and comfort.

I bought a BK2 at one point to try it and returned it because it just wasn't a knife for me. I dont mind the Grivory scales as I do have a BK9 that I use and love. I prefer my ESEE 4 the wife graciously got me a few months back. It works better in a general utility roles for what I do and paired up with my BK9 its a good setup for me.

Value wise again the BK2 is hard to beat for what you get. Its a beast as many people here on the forums will tell you.

That's Funny.

BK 9 and ESEE 4 is what I combo too. When weight isn't too much of an issue add a hatchet too. (always have the folding saw)

As far as comfort goes on the bk2 the grivory handles that come stock are very comfortable in hand but they also feel very slippery even thought they really arent bad at all. If you not gona upgrade the scales I recommend sliding a small piece of bicycle inner tube over the handle or a few wraps of hockey tape to give that added piece of mind of a firm grip. Even though mine has never slipped when using I needed to add tape to just make it FEEL secure which in the end allows me to really hack away without fear of it flying off into the brush.

Well my new toys have arrived!

I love my BK2. In fact I have two of 'em as one is a polished customised version. These things are absolute tanks! One thing yo be aware of though: it's heavy, bulky and short for it's weight. You may find that despite the fact that you think you need a tank, you could likely get away with something much less bulky and it would perform better for the tasks you need. But the cool thing about the BK2 is that you'll be able to give it a go without breaking the bank and you can always sell if it you want something else.

I am a big fan of Southern Grind's Jackal and Jackal pup. I met the Southern Grind designer at blade show 2018 who created this knife with Zac Brown of the Zac Brown Band. The dude is a wealth of information and taught me a lot in a 5 minute conversation.
Here is blade breakdown of the jackal (out of the SG catalog). The jackal pup is a smaller version of this at an overall length of 5.75":

Handle: Solid G10 3D milled
Grind: Conventional Flat Grind
Blade Steel: 8670M high carbon steel
Hardness: RC 58-59
Overall Length: 9.25"
Blade Length: 4.75"
Handle Length: 4.5"
Weight: 9.5 oz
Blade Thickness: .21"

The more I look at the BK2, the more I start thinking it might actually be my first choice.

Could somebody post a picture of how thick the handle is? Maybe some reviews on comfort?
I find the handle a bit thick for my hands unless I'm chopping. The BK-2 was raved about a couple years ago here. I got one..... as far as I'm concerned it was a big waste of money as I have no use for a pry bar knife and don't want to carry one in the woods. Kabar (Becker) is supposed to release a Kephart (BK-62) before Christmas. It is a near copy of the original Kephart blade and is supposed to have a 5" blade. There is a thread over in the Becker forum where everyone is hoping for it's release soon. It is a buy for me.

If I want to chop, I use Condor short machetes generally. But I do own a BK-7. The Condor Ironpath is a BK-9 type knife that is running around $100. It is on my buy list as well, but I have the Moonshiner and it sees little use. It's a big chopper knife.

My standard woods knife for a few years was the Becker BK-15 which is discontinued now. I still like it a lot. Very functional knife for me.

I like the fat handled ESEE knives. The only one I own is the ESSE 4 (original version). I don't care for the sheath personally and don't want to pay for a custom sheath. So it sits....

oops.... didn't see when this thread was started..... Oh well....
