Hey everyone, long time lurker, I post a bit but often don't have any time. I'm looking for a new folder, I finally found out the type of folders that I like to use. No framelocks, liner locks or backlocks, i usually prefer axis (axis like) and push button locks. I bought a mini grip, too small, a grip, too big. A couple months ago i picked up a benchmade volli and it fits my hand like hand in glove. Do you know any knives that are similar? I was looking for something a bit more durable considering the volli's blade is insanely thin. I was thinking the hogue deka, but again very thin blade. I was also considering the hogue ex-01 but I don't know anyone who has one. Thanks!

EX-01 is an excellent knife but a bit large at 4" unless you're looking at the Sig Sauer version at 3.5".
154CM steel is simple to get screaming sharp but won't hold that edge as well as some of the superior steels on the market, but that ease of sharpening is well worth the little extra sharpening imo.
Button lock works great, no washer construction that is smooth as butter.
I just sorted my collection of over 100 knives I have remaining and put aside 4 that I'll likely keep, my 4" EX-01 was one of them.
A definite keeper and also kind of fun to fidget with.;)

If you like the Volli, consider the Bugout, Bailout or model 531.
All of these knives have the same blade length, 3.25 inches. If you are happy with the Volli, you should be happy with any of the above knives.

I loved my Volli but ended up selling it because of the assisted opening feature.

Now I carry a 631 as my dress knife and could not be happier.

Of course this thread was bound to be 3/4 full of people saying bugout. Well here's another one.
The Hogue Ritter is something else to maybe consider.

Wow lot of responses. Had a manix 2 lw, snapped the blade, not a big fan of the shape either. Also used a 940, keep it in my car i got the 1501, pretty nice. Never actually used the bugout, Im not sure i trust the durability. but a couple buddies of mine love them. Manly knives, never heard of them, thanks, I will check them out. And yeah, I was looking at the sig ex01, like the deep carry clip and the 3.5 blade size, how big is it compared to the full size grippy?

I second the bm 940. I love mine. I have the rei exclusive and it's a workhorse. I will also recommend any spydie with compression lock. I have a pm3 in maxemet that I edc alot, and I just bought a bento box m390 pm3 of the market place. If you throw a deep carry clip on them they are very ergonomic and fit my hand well.

Someone say Hogue Ritter?

I've had the 4" models but never the 3.5" and the 4" carries smaller and lighter than its size implies.
Probably due to a proper handle to blade ratio and the handle being aluminum.
Griptilian handle is fatter by almost 0.1" but the EX handle is a bit taller.
Both have a 3.5ish length blade.
Hard to say if it'll be a good fit for you, depends on your hand size.

The durability is fine. Very minor flex of the scales. You really have to go out of your way to make it happen.

Of course you can upgrade the scales to G10 or metal. Switching to titanium scales will change the Bugout/Bailout from a good knife to an amazing knife.

The only reason I don’t own one is because I prefer the 531.

There are lot of good axis locks out there but if you are interested in something "cool" in terms of locking mechanism and great "fun factor", do check out Drop Protech Ferrum Forge Mordax. Willamson design. Gorgeous button lock. 3.6 inch CPM-20CV blade. Made in the U.S.A. Around $240 from the Drop site if you can get it. I have it in my collection and highly recommend it.

Now for the kicks, you could also check out Barry Wood "Swing Lock" knives. Authentic Barry Woods are quite rare and pricey; but the "fun factor" is out of this world.

Alright, so what do you guys think of the bugout in cf-elite vs the sig hogue ex-01 and maybe the hogue deka?

Deka over the Bugout, just a more robust knife for it's already smallish size, and they're relatively the same length blade.
And I'd just rather have the Hogue.:D
The EX-01 is going to be larger than the others if that's what you prefer. It will definitely fill your grip.

I think benchmade qc is underrated, lot of the bad units seem to be used and sold as new so they are circulated more. So far I’ve never had a bad benchmade. Sucks though since before I’ve heard only great things about hogue.

When it comes to "locks," I have become enamored with a folder that requires two fingers to open. Now that might sound odd, but when it comes to "presenting a blade" I don't think anyone could be faster than with the Buck Redpoint folders.
I bought mine not for speed, however. I'm one of these guys who thinks he has three hands when I begin a project. Just about the time I realize everything might fall I need a good folder that saves my bacon.
As a young biker I carried switchblades, which oddly became legal in my area about the time I tired of them. However, the Buck listed below has all the strength of a working folder, all the pivot locking you'll ever need, and a smooth and light touch in swinging the blade open
I bought three of them. It's my observation that when I like something they quit making it...
...and right on cue, my pictures won't load correctly...
