Hey everyone,
I am thinking of getting a new( new to me, can be used) grinder. This is hard enough as it is, but i don't have much of a budget for it, honestly, at most i will top out at 100. So i was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on one to get, currently i am considering the grizzly 1x30, and a reliant 1x42 i found on craigslist. I don't mind waiting a little for some sales to come up, or for something good on craigslist, but need a idea of what to look for. I am currently using an old ( 80's probably) craftsman 4x36 which does work, but is taking a beating. If it helps, it will be for finishing off knifes i have forged, so doesn't need to remove a huge amount of material.
Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Noel

Welcome to Shop Talk. Filling put your profile will help us with better answers. With all the info filled in we can know a bit about you ( age, location, occupation, hobbies and interests, etc.).
Occasionally someone has an old grinder they may offer a local newbie who has filled out his info.

If at all possible get a 2" wide belt grinder/sander. A 2X42 is great, a 2X36 will also work...a 2X72 is what you will eventually want.

well i found a good deal on a 1x42, which should hold me over until i can afford something better, this is the picture of it, got worried though when i tried it out with some grinding, the belts it came with all broke at the seem within 2 minutes.... come to find out the belts were unused since 1992, planning on ordering some new ones today
