Guys,

In my search for the "perfect knife" (as long as there is one) I've came across a lot of great blades:

Fallkniven F1
Bark Rivers (Gameskeeper, Nebula, Woodland, Huntsman)
Ranger knives (RD 4-6-7)
Ontario RAT (complete line in 1095)
Victorinox (Ranger is my favourite, Swisschamp, Trekker, Camper, Huntsman)
Spyderco (Endura, Delica, Military, Manix, Mini Manix)
Benchmade (only a 551 PE)
Kershaw Cyclone
Entrek Badger

And a lot more tools......

I'm looking for a good small (F1 size) fixed knife and a good quality folder, with a deep riding clip (maybe the Al Mar Sere).
What do you guys recommend to get as an addition to the knives above? Are there brands that I've missed out on?

Mmmm I know that Spanish brands don't rule in this forum but if you are looking for a fixed blade about the size of the F1... I have a suggestion for you. It is going to be 440C (I guess), full flat grind, cheaper than the F1 (because it is not laminated), comes with a neat leather sheat, you have the choice of differente handle materials (from stag to cocobolo wood)... and it is made in Spain. I have an F1 on the way but this one is one on muy "buy list"

It is the Muela Kodiak, have a look

Cocobolo wood handle (cheapest): http://www.filofiel.com/tienda/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=47&products_id=2256
Fancier Deer stag / wood handle: http://www.filofiel.com/tienda/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=47&products_id=1986

I know that this steel is not top notch and that it might be a little traditional for you but If you live in Europe you will probably be able to get it for a nice price. I guess it is worth a try!

Mikel,

Thanks for the links. That Muela looks very nice with cocobola wood! I really like the lines and the geometry of the blade. 440C isn't a bad steel at all, it's all about heat treatment, what makes a steel good or bad.

You've put Muela back on the map for me!!

Any more suggestions?

Thanks,
CZ

Barkriver Northstar
Grohmann boat knife in carbon steel(check out my Grohmann thread for pics)
Also, don't forget about some of the custom blades, our own Fiddleback and Gossman make some really knice knives.
Look for a custom nessmuk or scandi, and check out the bladeforums offical knives. (theres 2 I think, I missed out while going through my gun faze.)

Here are a couple of excellent knives in that category. The KOA (knives of Alaska), Alpha Wolf in D2 and the Helle Harding. Triple Laminated blade.

Guys,

Thanks for all the great advise!

I think I overlooked the BM 710 and 940. I probably give the BRKT Bravo1 and Northstar or Fox River another look. All the other brands are going to get another review too.

Are there some others that are worth looking for?!

Thanks,
CZ

Fallkniven F1 is very nice.
I would consider Fallkniven H1 too.

Scandinavian knives are interesting too (Mora, Helle...) see @ ragweed forge for a good assortment.

While I'm still waiting for mine, form first reports, Dan Koster's CPM3V bushcraft seems to be a good knife for price.
Initial batches were quite inexepensive ($150 shipped to Europe including shealth), custom orders might cost a bit more.

I'm not much into folders but:
* Spyderco VG10 Endura is a good quality basic folder (all you get is a very good blade with a crappy plastic handle -but who needs more) at a "quite low" price.
* in the "not too expensive" range, many people seem to appreciate the 440C Benchmade Griptians;
* Opinels are very good for price, but no clip.

Guys,

I have mentioned "other tools".....that include Mora's a SOG Revolver, some HK auto's... etc

Ravaillac, can't you hook me up with some cheap Opinels? I know they cost me 10euro for a #7. Aren't they cheaper in France?

I might contact Dan Koster for his wonderfull knife.....although I see it as custom.

About Opinel, price in France for the most common (n°7-8) is about 6€-8€. Price is about the same in all shops.
I'd go for the carbon steel over the stainless (although I've not bought any stainless since they shifted to 12C27 -I think).

Here are some addresses, these are well known shops that should ship internationnaly without much trouble, I did not search a lot but since price is quite low, I doubt you can find something significantly lower anywhere else.

Because of the shipping cost (flat 19€), you'll probably have to order in bulk to save on individual price. Maybe you can email them to ask for uninsured shipping if total is low.
