Looking for a nice automatic watch?

The only thing I would say about companies like Tag and Rolex is that you pay for more than you get in the sense that you can get a comparable watch in every sense for less that just doesn't have the name/prestige. Both companies spend LOADS of $$ on their advertising and the cost is directly transferred to you when you buy their watch. You do spend some extra change for the name.

Just like comparing the Rolex Sea Dweller and the Omega Planet Ocean. Both very comparable (I've saw an incredible post on watchuseek.com on this) both are top notch in every aspect. Both chronometers. But one is half the price of the other. People could go back and forth all day saying one is better than the other but when I see that....apart from the price it's the whole Ford and Chevy thing. Really.

If you get the right watch from the right maker/company and get it used....sorry....PREOWNED off that auction site for example....you can get an amazing deal and WAY more bang for your buck. I've even seen some great deals on Rolex come and go. Heck, if I had more $$ I'd have probably went for it.....I'd love a Rolex but in terms of whats available to me financially and cost efficiency.....my Omega's were the way to go.

My Seamaster Bond Chrono (blue) keeps 1.5 second fast per day consistently and my Speeder keeps around 2.5-3.0 sometimes less a + a day. Both have perfect fit and finish and are a joy to wear. I got both for what it would normally cost for a Oyster GMT.

But if a Oyster GMT is what you have your heart set on.....there's nothing else for you

Admittedly, while many other companies buy high end movements...in fact: MOST companies do and customise/rework them to their specs.....Rolex has all in house movts.

No matter what quartz watch you get be it a Tag or a Seiko...if it breaks you can send it to the manufacturer, they'll rip out the movt and stick a new one in cheaply. Quartz will almost always tell better time than the best autos and it's WAAAAY cheaper. But it's the difference between a Yugo and a Bentley for a watch lover.

its hard to get a deal on any SS rolex sports watch right now the demand is just so high, i mean occasionally ya can find one but ya have to hunt and be lucky.

when i got my GMT2 i looked for a "deal" for over a month and finally found one for MSRP minus ~$300 and considered myself lucky.

I really feel that when you buy a high end prestige watch, you are buying an idea. An object that transcends any sensible notion of mere utility or value for money. Think of it like buying a custom Bagwell bowie. No one really needs one, you are not really going to get into a knife on knife duel, but, something in us longs for the best, perfection or at least a similicrum of it.
My double red Rolex Sea Dweller makes me feel all warm and tingly inside, although I do not like the new 'improved' version at all.
I could rabbit on about the qualities of all my watches but it wouldn't help you develop your own aesthetic.
Incidently, my Xmas watch will be an Omega Planet Ocean Chrono.
My favourite Brietling is the Chrono-Matic.

Which Breitling do you have? I absolutely love the Navitimer and hope to own one some day. What do you think of your Breitling, is it a favorite?

I have a black dial Superocean.

Its a superb watch and Breitling are about as good as it gets IMO but its a bit big/thick for me. I see it as more of a wrist clock than watch

I am way more into my Tags. The styling just suits me better I think but if you have the cash a Breitling is a real nice watch to go for.
I took it over a Rolex when it came to the crunch and havent regreted it one bit :thumbup:

Nope not a auto, but its a start. They were $142 each at the local mall The store was going out so they had them 60% off.

Still plan on a nice auto watch but these will hold me over untill I can shop with a higher price limit.

Nice pick Eco Drives are great! They've also got a huge power reserve and it doesn't take much light to keep them going! Sounds like you got a steal!
