I want to buy a SAK for EDC [I will also take it with me when in the outdoors].
Im not sure what to get though, Ive been looking at the Huntsman and Camper models, but Im still not sure. I dont really need the scissors, so the Camper seems to be the better choice out of the two. Im also concerned about the saw, do I really need it? I think it would be useful in an emergancy since I dont carry a Hatchet or anything like that, but Im not sure. One final thing I dont want it to be to big, I wont carry anything with more than 3 layers.
Any suggestions about wich SAK would be best for me?
Thanks in advance!

well , at least it let's you choose, it may have some errors, butmost of the saks with it's features are there

btw, what would you add to the sak selectorto make it better? :D

Cheers

as i said, you can try the 108mm series, i am sure you can find some used GAK s somewhere in ebay, the nice think about this ones is that has the same tools than the camper but in two layers of tools

also there is some model called lumberjack or plumberjack that has a saw and a combotool in a 84mm model

Cheers

It would be better if you could choose the tools you wanted.

What kind of problems did you have with the SAK Selector? Letting you choose the tools you want is exactly what it's supposed to do. If you can tell me what's going on when you try to use it I should be able to fix the problem. Can you help me out?

As far as model recommendations, it sounds like you would probably do best with either a Camper or a Hiker, depending on whether you want a Phillips or a corkscrew on the back.

Digidude,

I decided years ago that a SAK with a saw would be with me whenever I ventured into the great outdoors. I think that the ability to easily cut a walking staff, shelter poles, splints, travois/litter, though perhaps unlikely, will be worth it if you have to do any in a hurry. SAK saws are really great.

Funny thing about the scissors: I used to think that I didn't have much use for them, but it seems that I use them more than the blade now that I carry a SAK that has them.

also i forgot to mention the farmer, an alox beauty ! basiclly a soldier with a saw ;)

@digidude,

If for outdoors, why not get an OHTrekker?

OT: There is also a SAK selector feature at www.swissarmy.com (see http://www.swissarmy.com/multitools/toolmatch.htm) where you can graphically choose the implements you want, and then the page displays the most probable tool matches for your query.

Thanks a lot, that really helps. I like the hiker, Id rather have the philips than the corksrew.

Hi,

I've been carrying a Huntsman since 1959. I'm actually on my third one because of various dumb things done by me. Pretty hard to beat.

Do find it big for pocket carry?

The OH Trekker makes a good general pupose knife, why not do what I do and have a small SAK with scissors as well. Would not like to be without my OHT.

I was kinda hopong to get a "classic" style swiss army knife, you know. I have considered the OHT but I just dont like it somehow.

Small and don't want scissors...how 'bout the Tinker?

I think digidude wants a saw in there. A camper, hiker or huntsman would probably suit him better. =)
