Looking for a SAK.

I edc a fieldmaster and like it alot. It is to thick for pocket carry in my opinion. I carry mine in a nylon Victorinox sheath. If you are wanting to carry your sak in your pocket I would suggest the hiker. If you like sheath carry go with the fieldmaster. I have found the scissors to be alot more useful that I first thought they would be. Good luck, Jim

Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

Its either gonna be a Huntsman or a Camper, I need help deciding though:(

Like others have said the scissors do come in useful. Many regard the Huntsman as the benchmark against which all SAK's are judged. Personally I don't mind the slight increase in weight, others are more minimalist.

My vote goes to the Huntsman... The scissors go a long way. You lose the Philips for the corkscrew, though. =)

Why not just get both the Huntsman and Camper. When it comes to SAKs, its ALWAYS better to buy 2, instead of just 1.

Im a little short on cash, so Ill only be getting one for the time being:thumbdn: :(

I always have a Leatherman Squirt s4 on my keys anyway, and those scissors are FAR superior to the SAK ones.

Im leaning towards the Huntsman though, If I EDC that, then I guess I could ditch the s4, and make my keys a little lighter:thumbup:

Huntsman, definitely. I've used the small driver on the end of the can opener for phillips screws all the time I've owned my Huntsman.
Alternatively, now you've got it down to 2, toss a coin. It's amazing how often, as it spins in the air, you suddenly realise what side you're hoping it comes down on! ;)

I've been buying Victorinox Rangers for a couple of weeks now. A Wal*Mart near me carries them for $29.42 apiece, so, when I have a spare $32 laying around, I'll head over there and buy a Ranger.

I'm thinking of going and getting a Boy Scout Huntsman, or a Boy Scout Yeoman (Explorer Plus) this week, for a change of pace. However, the Boy Scout versions usually run in the ~$45 price range. The Boy Scout stores around me usually have a pretty good selection of SAKs, if one can look past the Boy Scout logo and the generally higher prices.

If he's anything like me, I'm betting that [digidude] will eventually have both the Huntman and the Camper! ;) freezergeezer has a good plan with the coin-toss!

Amazon.com of all places is selling the Boy Scout Huntsman for $23. Actually... I think they might be having a sale on SAKs... their prices seem pretty good right now.

Idunno?

Edit: Of course, you'd have to wait for it to ship. This time of year everything seems to ship slower...

Amazon does have great prices on SAKs. I've ordered three from them recently. The last time I ordered I signed up for a free three month trial of Amazon Prime which gives you free two day shipping on orders over $25. I'll just have to remember to cancel it by the end of Febuary or they will charge me $80 for an Amazon Prime membership  .

Thanks, gents, for your suggestions about buying SAKs from Amazon.com.

As a victim of an unsolved identity/credit card theft, a few years ago, I'm still a bit gunshy about sending my credit card number through an unknown number of computers along the way to Amazon. I'd also prefer not to leave a "paper trail" of knife purchases. It's simpler for me to just walk into a store, pick out a knife, plop down some cash, and walk out the door, even though it can mean that I'm paying more. I'd rather pay more and do without the paperwork, S&H charges, and then, finally, waiting by the mailbox for my purchase to arrive. Yes, I suppose that I might sound 'old fashioned,' to some, but, being thought of as "old fashioned" doesn't bother me as much as would having my credit card numbers being out on the Internet, somewhere.

What mortar & brick stores usually carry SAKs? I know about Wal*Mart, Lowes, Walgreens and Boy Scout Stores, but surely there are more than just those four.

Thanks again!

Targets carry SAKs... Their selection seems to be just decent, not great though. Least, that's true of the one by me.

The dealer finder on swissarmy.com lists about 15 stores near me that carry Vic SAKs. Trouble is they only carry a few models and they are usually the same few.

I had the same question about Huntsman vs. Camper ... but resolved it by getting myself a Huntsman, and buying Campers for my kids. :D

FWIW, I recently bought these used from a seller on E-bay for very little money, and Tom Karaneg gave very fine service indeed. http://stores.ebay.com/Toms-Quality-Used-Pocket-ToolsNo, they're not new ... but then, I ended up with 6 knives in very fine shape, for less than $50 shipped. No relationship ... just a very pleased customer.
