Recommendation? Looking for a slip joint with a pry bar

What you are looking for is called a Signal Corps or radio knife.

If you look around they were made in 1 and 2 blade configurations

I understand why some of you are suggesting I look to carry a separate tool for this such as the Leatherman brewzer etc. I carried a Gerber shard for a couple of years, a great little tool, however I grew tired of it sticking into my leg through my trousers. I also have no need for a bottle opener, once you know how to pry a bottle open you can do it with anything, the back of a knife, a lighter... the guy who showed me how to do it demonstrated with a rolled up magazine! So I have no need to carry a bottle opener anymore. As the old adage goes; the more you know, the less you need.

This whole paragraph suggests to me that you and I were separated at birth. Wait 'til I show you how to pop a bottle top with a splitting maul!

Maybe I'm going off the reservation for a moment, but instead of a knife with a pry bar maybe you need a pry tool with a knife in it?

Something like the GilTek RUK is what I'm thinking. There's others similar to it, this is just one I like.

RUK V2 Aluminum - GilTek (gil-tek.com)

They make them in aluminum, titanium and also in brass if you desire.

Gerber Prybrid, Big Idea TPT-Slide, or many of the others like this to look at.

Your first sentence genuinely had me laughing then. We are indeed on the same page! I'm up for opening a bottle with a splitting maul!

You're right, a pry tool with a knife - I hadn't thought of that. Though in may mind the knife would always be the main tool. I've looked at those your suggested and while I'm sure they are good, they aren't for me. I'm more of a traditional knife guy and I'm not keen on a fancy Stanley knife/box cutter. Thanks for the the idea though.

Benchmade Triage with the opposing bevel blade is literally a knife designed to pry.

never mind. It’s a locking blade so not UK ok.

My oldest son John, was the first of our kids to go off to college. After the first semester, when he came home for a bit, he spent the first dinner time showing me all the different ways to open a beer without a bottle opener.

My wife and I were really overjoyed to know the tuition money was not wasted on his eduction, but I haven't needed a bottle opener since.o_O

I carry an A.G. Russell steel thumbnail every day, no matter which knife I might have (usually my Douk Douk). I use it to pry, scrape, and turn screws. Maybe linked to a small sak like a rambler with a screw link you'd get what you're looking for.1610323436975142330189.jpg

Hi All,

Thanks for all your replies! I've been on various forums over the years but never had so many responses so quickly, great work everyone.
I should have perhaps given some more details on what I'm looking for, but you all generally have the idea. A couple more things...

I much prefer knives with only one blade, hence my love for the Elko where the pry bar is part of the body. I've had an alox sak before and I've always been a bit dubious of their skinny blades, not sure why though. The one I had was a farmer model (I think) which I modified - I took a layer of tools out (saw and second blade?) to leave just the awl and main blade. I do still have the Sak, I think its in my tool box in my car. Saks are good knives but not something that have ever wowed me. The TL29 several of you have recommended is quite a beast too, I was looking for something more minimalist and comfier on the pocket.

I know I mentioned having a pry bar on the knife, but upon reflection this is a bit misleading. The reality is that I don't do much prying with it, it's more used as a scraper and screwdriver. I put it in the title so readers would clearly understand what I mean - perhaps I wasn't giving everyone here enough credit.

I think I've gone on enough here, sorry about that. Perhaps I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. But if it does I'm sure someone on here will know of it!

Cheers

The Alox SAK blade is anything but flimsy. I'd put it above the blade on the TL series for example. I've used it with wood and it stands up very well indeed. The advantage of something like a SAK Pioneer for example is that you get both a flat head and phillips screwdriver, the screwdriver at the end of the can opener is great for phillips screws (size 2). In addition the bottle opener as a pry bar is significantly tougher than the flat head screwdriver/pry bar on my Leatherman Charge, been there, had to buy the replacement tool after it snapped, etc.

An old school yachting knife has a pry screw driver built in.

Hold up.
