Looking for a small, fixed blade knife.

Well, I'll add a couple of suggestions- custom knives that don't cost an arm and a leg. I'd get in touch with either Gene Ingram or Chase Axinn (chax knives), and tell them what you're looking for- they'll tweak the design so you are completely happy, they're both very patient, and both put out top-notch work at a VERY reasonable price.

Did some more research. Unless I see or hear about something pretty exciting,
I think I have it down to three top contenders. The current top choices are:

Spyderco Kumo
Benchmade Nimravus Cub
Fallkniven G1 Garm

I'm still not completely decided, and open to suggestions; but those are my
current front-runners. All good names, all good steel, all small, and they're
all designs that I like.

Still looking... Thanks again.

The blade thickness of the Kumo is...very very thin. So thin that I am even scared to cut cardboard with it. Dissapointing really.

You seem to like long and sleek (daggerlike) knives, right?

Regards, vC

I just got a slightly used BM 210 with 2 sheaths for $70. S30V, classy as hell. Might be a little small but it's so sweet and easy to find for relatively cheap. If you want to spend a little more, I can't say enough a bout a Strider DB, SA, WP, or even ED. My DB is by far my favourite concealable fixed blade.

I liked my G1 design very much but found it to be very small. I have fairly small hands and I thought this knife was too small. You mentioned the Nealy/boker in your first post, I carry a nealy/boker drop point in cocabola and ats34 almost every day and like it very much. I didn't like the boker version of the mcs so much though so mine rides in a Mike Sastre sheath IWB. These are high quality fixed blades in good steel that carry very well and are big enough to be useful.
one more that you might take a look at is the BRKT blackwater boot knife. I have a number of Bark River knives and find them to be excellent in design and construction.

Yes, I'm a fan of long and sleek knives in general; and in this application it
seems ( to me, at least ) to be the way to go for an SD knife. I find the
aesthetics of daggers like the old Case V-42 Stiletto VERY appealing. That's
too big for my current purposes, though. I'll check out BRKT as soon as I get
a chance. Thanks.

I liked the Greco Dangler enough that I bought a second one for my sister who owns a farm and is always in need of a good, stout knife and the Dangler certainly fits that bill. Also, if you have followed the wandering "Self-Defense" thread, now in the Political Arena, you might find Ken Cox's thoughts on a knife's appearance and name worthwhile if you ever have to use it in self-defense. The Dangler certainly fits right in with those thoughts as it is most definitely not a scary murderous weapon but a handy tool. I would wear mine by choice if I could. I frequently do when visiting my sister.

I'm a little worried about such reactions with the Fallkniven G1, but the
Nimravus Cub and the Spyderco Kumo don't strike me as very aggressive
looking. On the other hand, I'm a knife person....

I've looked at a few similar to the SWICK. Benchmade has one, and I've seen
several that are VERY similar from other manufacturers. I don't find those very
appealing. For one, they typically have very short blades. The SWICK, for
instance, has a 2.14" blade. I'd like to have a blade at least 3.5" preferably
close to 4".

I guess some of you are getting tired of me shooting down suggestions, but
I'm looking to throw $90 - $200 at a knife that I'm comfortable with for SD.
If I'm going to pay that much, it'd sure be nice if it looks good, too.

Thanks again.

I have a G1, and I don't think you can go wrong with this one. It is a little small, but that makes it easy to conceal, plus you can always add the teklok fastener for more carry options. It's a sturdy knife that's comfortable to carry and feels good in your hand IMO. The only beef I have is the cord that comes with it for around your neck.

I really like my BM 210 Activator, but I would suggest getting a sheath made for it, the leather one that it comes with was not to my likeing. Normark here on the forums makes really nice Concealex ones.

You also might want to check out the Hide-Away knife for a neck knife.

For an inexpensive fixed 4" blade knife, consider the SOG Field Pup. I have one and it is a nice knife to carry around. Not sure of the reaction you will get if it is seen. I'm not crazy about the sheath, but it will do. Cold Steel makes a similar knife.

In the custom area, Jim Ragsdale makes some pretty nice little fixed blades.
