Looking for a small fixed blade to be a companion to my CCW

Onesourcetactical.com produces a TSD Combat "Grab 'n Stab" knife that they designed for just the purpose you describe.

I would first consider and train for the circumstances in which I would likely deploy a knife to use as a back up or instead of my pistol- George

For a lightweight slicer, I carry a Spyderco Elmax Mule w/grippy G10 handles. For stabbing, I use a TOPS Scapel, or a TOPS Bootlegger, both w/small skateboard tape patches for grip.

Hmm, do I feel like cutting or stabbing, should I use the 5 iron or go with the putter:)

In this role, I llike the SYKCO 311 but the 511 is no slouch in this department either. YMMV

Hmmmm looks almost indentical to the shiv works disciple. Not quite as nice though. i would give shivworks stuff a look before I would buy that knife. The emblem on the blade looks like nemesis knife works, which is a legit mid-tech company, but a trace rinaldi custom at near the same price is just a no contest.

If you have a pistol and you're using the knife it's probably a close up situation. I like the Emerson La Griffe because it's small, locks into the grip and does a lot of damage used instinctively. The Kabar TDI is not bad either and definitely less expensive and more available.

I carry a Glock when I leave my home. And my knife is ALWAYS clipped in my RH pocket; does not interfere with the gun @ 4pm position.
My most recommended knife would be an Emerson Commander or CQC-7, either one with the Wave feature, which opens the knife as it leaves your pocket. Nothing is quicker than a Wave, and the Emerson is a very tough knife. Many here with military experience will feel similarly.
Sorry, but I don't use fixed blades, and my knife is primarily for utility purposes.

Since you conceal a pistol, I guess you wish to conceal your FB knife also. This rules out a large knife, unfortunately. With my pistol at 4 o'clock (right handed) I often carry a Dozier KM-3 "Agent" at 10 or 11 o'clock. The kydex sheath clips nearly horizontal to my belt, most of the handle is available to grip, and I can draw it with either hand unlike a pocket knife. Your shirt or jacket concealing the pistol will also conceal this knife, and you can slide it fore and aft a little for best comfort, position, and to reduce printing.

The issue is not which particular knife is best, as any 7 to 8 inch knife will be welcome in a desparate situation, but can you deploy it quickly with either hand? Is it concealed so your opponent is unaware of it? Is it legal? Of lesser importance, is it sheeple friendly? Find a knife that fits your hand, with a blade you can use. Have a sheath made to carry it where you can get to it quickly with either hand.

LOL... Are you here all week George? :D

Missed the period...hope nobody is pregnant

As to the original question, Bud Nealy and Bob Dozier both make some really nice small fixed blades that come with good sheath systems.

Have Invictus Kydex making a second sheath for this bad boy from David Mosier and then it will be getting some carry time.

Beside the many great suggestions, you may want to take a look at some of the knife makers here on the forum, such as John at JK Knives and Scott at Gossman Knives, they have many choices for small fixed blades and if you don't see a style you like they will make almost anything you want at a reasonable price. Since I don't know what state your from I can only give you my perspective as a LEO in CA.

The fact that you have a CCW in CA does not automaticle allow you to carry a fixed blade concealed, here You can still be charged with a felony for the fixed blade knife even though you can carry a gun. It depends how the laws are worded. In CA " any instrument with or without a handgiard that is capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death" is considered a concealed weapon. Fixed blades can only be carried exposed, and you are still subject to local ordanaces that prohibit it in public places. Generally a folder, other than autos are ok because they cannot be be used instantly to stab, ( and yes I know many out there will tell me that they can deploy the folder just as fast) but the law looks at it that way. A concealed fixed blade can be instantly used and is the what many get arrested for. So double check your local and state laws first. If you carry both the handgun and knife the handgun should be your primary defense weapon, it is what you are trained in, and can defend the use of in court, I.E.. Criminal and Civil trials.

The knife whether a folder or fixed should be a back up only when the handgun is present. Never refer to your knife as a weapon, it is for utility. Hope this helps, good luck on the search.
