Looking for a smaller folding knife

I'm looking for something to get a friend, needs to be <3" blade, hopefully fairly narrow and slender (width and thickness closed) he didn't like the delica because it seems so wide.

Will probably just see some standard use...cardboard, letters, packaging and the like. PE or PS probably wont matter that much.

needs a pocket clip, tip orientation irrelevant. right handed.

Relatively inexpensive...<$50 (absolute max, hopefully less)

thanks in advance.

How about a Kershaw Leek, Boker Trance. I am sure there will be more good ones that will get listed here. GOOD LUCK! Kevin:) :)

Another vote for the Boker Trance. I also like the Case Mid Folding Hunter. It is fairly thin, has thumbstuds and pocket clip, and although it isn't 'tactical', it is a nice looking knife. Here are some pics of it with a BM 960 just for grins.

Just got a Leek in the mail today, and I have to say, what a knife!

It definitely fits your criteria of being a slender knife. It has the lowest profile of my folders, and I can't get enough of the Speedsafe AO.

You can get a standard silver Leek for 10 or 15 dollars less than your budget.

how about a Benchmade 707 Sequel...............
Modified clip point 154CM satin finished blade.
Dual thumb studs.
Handle is black 6061-T6 Aluminum with black G10 inlays.
Double 410 liners.
Movable steel carry clip.
Blade length: 2.95". Open: 6.75" Closed: 3.8"

its thin knife has good steel and an axis lock... im not sure about your budget but you should be able to find them at online dealers in the 90-100 dollar range

Too bad you only have 50.00, cause that 960 listed above is by far one of the finest small folders I have seen. I would have my sights set on one, but they are already set on a larger 940.

I love the 960... it is a great little knife, and I've been very impressed with the D2.

You might want to check out a Spyderco Cricket. They don't get much thinner than this. I'm sure with a little shopping you can find one within your limited budget.

A leek is a great idea, and alot of the other suggestions are good too, but the most important aspect is not thinness. I'm really looking for something in like a Delica or a leek, but the Delica is too wide (when looking at the side of the handle) when closed, and I don't want anything assisted opening, otherwise the leek would be perfect.

Are they talking about thin as in slab to slab or spine to spine of the handle? If latter, then no spyderco would fit the bill since the opening hole makes the blade wider then thumbstub models.

How about a Kershaw Vapor or Vapor II? Thin, narrow, no AO, pocket clip and thumb stud. Cheap but solid and comfortable in the hand.

Kershaw LFK, 2 1/8 in Blade, Plain Edge
It looks like a small leek

Basically your friend doesn't want the closed-position profile of the protruding "hump" that the Spydie hole leaves, correct?

If he isn't particular about steel and FRN handle is OK, how about the Kabar Dozier?

If you want to stick w/Spyderco, the Centofante 3 isn't very wide when closed. The hole is set lower into the width of the blade. VG10 and comfy in-hand.

I'd +1 the U2, but he wants a clip on the knife.

So I'l +1 the KaBar Dozier. Meets all the requirements, has decent steel, and is ~$20. Besides, for what he wants to do with the knife, AUS8 is perfect steel.
