Looking for a smaller folding knife

Another vote for the Trance. I still find myself edc'ing this one more than other knives costing more. At $25, it's hard to beat.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Byrd line from Spyderco -- they have several ~2.5" blade choices in a variety of handle materials. The G10 Robin has gotten many favorable comments here on BladeForums. I love mine.

Byrd line from Spyderco,is made in China ,the steel is similar to 440.
Similar products in China ,but different design about usd 8/pc.
Yes, I agree native is the best for steel 30v & price reason

Wally World Spyderco Native. Made in Golden, CO., S30v steel, great knife for $40

You seem to be thinking of something with a locking blade and a pocket clip. Otherwise I would have suggested a simple Victorinox SAK or a Case Jr. Sodbuster. I'm in the minority here I'm sure, but I think lock blades and clips are highly overrated features for most uses.

Are they talking about thin as in slab to slab or spine to spine of the handle? If latter, then no spyderco would fit the bill since the opening hole makes the blade wider then thumbstub models.

This is what I meant (the latter). I was trying to figure out how to describe it. Would AUS 8 need to be sharpened often? I don't think he's going to be sharpening very much. The kabar dozier does seem like a good option, as does the boker trance. And I think I'll be hard pressed to find something with better steel in the price range unless I go spyderco.
