Looking for a solid camping knife

Ditch the esee and go with a Becker. Becker is a better company to support between the two....:)

Camping, value, utiltity = Becker.

Get a BK-2 and do any/every darned thing you please with it.

Depending upon budget, get a BK-9 (The King) and a BK-16; you will want for nothing.

Sorry I have not read the whole thread to see if a Ontario Blackbird was ever mentioned.

 Yep, I couldn't agree with you more. Been down that road with ESEE knives...but I would never buy another or recommend them to anyone.

I know it has been mentioned, but the Fallkniven A1 is a great option. I also like the Benchmade Arvensis (fine edge, coated), and Cold Steel Recon Scout.

There seems to be a trend with folks who don't like ESEE. "I said something and the owner was mean!" If you want to buy a knife from a really nice guy, then by all means, Ethan Becker is a freakin saint, and no one will dispute that, and I'm kicking myself for not picking up a 15 when they were still in production. But to to say that there is a measurable difference between KaBar corvan, and Rowen 1095, I'm doubtful. The Rowen crew make some great knives, and the ESEE guys have been called a lot things, but as far as I know dishonest is not one of them.

Worth pointing out also that Ethan and Jeff are good friends. There is no bad blood between the two companies. I own both ESEE and Becker knives, they are all excellent.

Very true. I recall a lot of support going both ways when ESEE was getting started and joined the forum. I don't recall who started first, it seems like Ethan partnered with KaBar near about that time.

Again, my vote is for the benchmade 154bk clip point. 1095 steel and extremely solid. I just have no idea why there are not more articles/reviews on it. It really is fantastic, like a mini machete but perfect length, strength, and quality.
