Looking for a solid, hard-working folding knife!

You asked me to name higher quality knives, not knives that I liked, as simple as that. Anyways, we're going off subject.

Back on subject, Ichop, have you looked into three sister folders?

I said to define "higher quality", not to name anything.

I have seen the Three Sisters Forge Beast, totally forgot about it until you brought it up. Thanks for that, another one for consideration.

I'm starting to go towards the Hinderer 3.5. Big thanks to @rpn for your thoughts on the Strider. If anyone has any lock-rock/F&F problems first hand, I'd like to hear them. (no troll, trying to be realistic!)

As for the whole "quality" folder thing, I appreciate the competitively priced options and have no doubt that they fit the bill for a hard-work folder, but the budget that I've listed is what I'd like to fill. I've already set aside the amount (I won't be bulk-eating ramen) and I'd like to find the best option within that price point.

Any additional thoughts and suggestions are welcome, thanks so far!

In that case, how about a Demko AD-10? Should be everything you're looking for and more.

Alternatively, if you don't mind not having a steel lock bar insert, the Grayman Satu might be right up your alley.

seems like the higher the price tag the less satisfied you are. maybe try going in the opposite direction and spending less than the cheapest of the knives you listed. maybe you'll find something. :p

The ZT 0200 is a beast and has one of the more ergonomic handles. It's definitely something to consider as long as you don't mind recurves. It is nothing like the 0550 or 0560 as far as feel. I have those also. I edc the 0550 gen 2 more than the 0200 because it carries better. In the hand though, the 0200 is very nice.

Also I have heard the BM Adamas is a quality beast also. Although I have no experience with it.

If you've budgeted $500, it might be worth looking into some customs. I know you're considering the XM-18, which is awesome, I'm sure (although I've never held one), but there are tons of customs out there at that price.

The Hinderer especially if you get the LEO price.

If you don't like it you can sell it and get a SNG or SMF and have enough left over to buy ramen for the next year! Once the ramen is stockpiled you will be free to spend all your money on customs.

This. This is what I think I'll be doing. I think I'll enjoy the hinderer, and worst case I'll resell for another option. I'll even be able to buy the ramen in the fancy bowls with the extra cash!

Thanks for all the comments guys!

For the record, I've tried the Umnumzaan, but I ended up trading it. And @MrPres, I have a custom, but it's more of an around the house knife (Grimsmo Norseman). I'm guilty of going easy on it...

Thanks! (and sorry for double post!)

I would guess that looking for a several hundred dollar folder, irrespective of the initial request looking for a hard use knife would mean that you intend to trade it in the event you don't like it? If so my vote is crk large sebenza. If you truly believe the cold steel pitch for the triad lock is bologna, pm a request list of stuff you want me to do with my american lawman :) . as for the comfort of the g10 scales, about ten minutes with a dremel and a moderately sober hand and you can grind away that outer edge for a smoother gripping path. There are vids on the tube. I too must confess a deep respect for the durability and reliability I have enjoyed for years from my cs al. Good luck in your knife hunt. I'll watch this thread for the conclusion

Edit: ninja'ed by op ^^, gl with the hinderer.

Clearly you did not see the purpose of me listing names of higher quality knives so they can visually show you on its own the definition of higher quality build but alas, I suppose some people just don't want to see it. Continue to believe what you wish, I can expect no less from die hard cold steel fans. Trust me, I used to be one before I became more aware.

Anyways.

ichop, I also noticed you did not mention a want for any Sebenza knives be it small or large? If the prices were more forgiving on my end regarding those knives, I would be carrying one right this moment as I've handled one and they're a beast of a knife. When the maker said it's designed for heavy work, he certainly meant it! In fact, my brother's boss works at the oil rig in North Dakota and he carries/uses a Sebenza knife on the job. Just another knife to throw into the ring. :p

Vic Farmer. ~$35, and it'll last you your life time.

It's okay if you don't have an actual explanation for me, as opposed to an arbitrary opinion which you baselessly assert to be more than such.

Says the guy that decides to derail the OP's thread by deflecting via rejecting actual physical knives that represents higher standards where I placed it before him to let the physical attributes speak for itself, thus eliminating the opinionated part of myself. But that's ok, you rather get the last word in so go ahead. ;)

ichop, let us know which knives you will have a new adventure with!
Personally I'm going to hold onto my 0550 but eventually I think I will move on to the Sebenza knives due to it's hard working reputations.

i plead ignorance on this one, but why would you want to use a $500 knife for hard work or something you're going to be abusing? maybe it's the bling factor thrown in there?

I've had my Lionsteel SR1 for about two weeks now.

I wanted a super sturdy, do everything rugged folder to carry in the field while hunting and dog training. The SR1 delivers.

The knife is a great no-nonsense design, made from super high quality materials, and is extremely well made.

I expected to really like this knife, and even then it has exceeded my expectations. I am really happy with this knife.

A good portion (not all) of $500 knives are designed to perform. You kind of have to see for yourself, to be honest. For me it's reassuring using a SnG or SMF. However I have felt reassured by $50-70 knives eg Enduras, so it's just what you feel comfortable using at that price point. Ymmv.
