Looking for a solid Kukri

got me some linseed / flax oil from Amazon.com
Organic was the cheapest. Happens :)
Smells good and is good to the wood.
Some use mineral oil and are happy too and its even cheaper.

Paint section of big box hardware store (mineral and linseed) . Not sure about tung?
I sent auntie an email. I forgot to mention where do you guys usually purchase these oils (for handle and blade)?

Correction: Mineral Oil from pharmacy. It is in the Laxative section.

Sadly Yangdu did not have any KLVUK available currently until the next shipment for the holidays. However she did have a blem Ang Kola so I grabbed that instead. I guess I will just have to get the KLVUK when they arrive hahaha :D

Congrats on the AK! Good choice and nice introduction to the Khuk world!

Well I got home today to a triangular box :D

Shes a beaut. Im hoping with proper oiling the handle will expand to fill the gap on the buttcap as seen in the photos. It feels amazing otherwise and a perfect fit for me. I like the weight also.

very nice Ang Khola!
You'll have lots of fun with her.
The shrinkage looks big but I'm sure at least half of it will come back after submerging the handle in linseed oil for a week or two.
If you really need to file the end cap than more at the end of the handle were it can dig into your palm. The front doesn't really matter. Might even leave it poky so you can scratch some mean guys face with it if you have to.

I used to buy tung oil at a nearby specialty wood store. Formby's, I think it's called. It finishes up beautifully but I don't think it's "true" tung oil, but a proprietrary mixture of tung oil and other stuff.

Lately I've gotten tung oil on the internet, from Amazon.com. It's the real thing, not as easy to polish as the other stuff but I think it soaks in better and dries harder. Note: The labels on tung oil bottles typically give the cure time as a few hours or a day. But a full cure can take much longer, weeks even. If you are going to rub in the best possible finish you want the tung oil completely cured so the rubbing sort of melts the layers together. If you're mainly using the tung oil to saturate and expand dry wood, that's not so important.

Excellent AK. While many of us will collect scores of gorgeous Nepali steel in search of "the one", a quality AK could last someone several lifetimes.

Just a really classic design that does so many things so right:)

How would I even get the end Cap off?

Absolutely. File with the handle on. It's easy, the material is soft so it cuts fast. Go with a medium course type file and finer when you get close. Then a little sand paper for a perfect fit.

That's a beauty of an AK, especially nice.

Thanks Guys. It is very beautiful. I keep taking it in and out of the sheath just to look at it. Not sure if I can even use it now since its so nice

I am hopefully going to get some linseed oil tonight and different sharpeners for it. I would love to start the restoring process asap :D

wow what a nice kukri, cant wait for my ak,i am more patient then I used to be.because I know the quality of what I am getting.i have used a few different blades, differant brands around the house, tree trimming, etc condor warlock, custom handled bear grills parang, other brand kukri, just seemed my other blades had no soul, they were ok, but my old ak,missed it..long gone. cured that itch.

Love this thing in conjunction with my sven saw. Just a couple hours this morning clearing brush and building up the stash for winter
