Does anybody know of a vendor who sells 1018 sheet in 1/4" thickness? I'm working on a project that I need 1018 specifically for, but I need 12" widths ideally.

Any info appreciated.

I would start with welding and fab shops. Most should be able to cut it for you in a day or two's notice.

My go-to guys for this stuff are my local welding & fab shop and I struck out. In 1018 they only go to 1/16" thick, over that is A36....

try sears or home depot, they have weldable, low carbon steel in cheap sheets in various sizes, but it might not be 1018

Awesome Patriqq, thanks!

The reason for 1018 is that it's going into some pattern welded steel with a203e and I need the extra Mn in the 1018 to get the contrast I'm looking for. It's purely decorative and doesn't need to hold an edge or anything.

This steel will be turning into squares for a chess board for my blacksmith guild's big raffle item for next year. Other members will be hand forging all the pieces and there's even talk of a small forged table to hold it all. It should be a very cool project and I'll be sure to post more about it once it starts to come together.

Thanks!

Hey Deker, I just picked up a bar of 1/4" x 8" x 36" 1018 cold rolled from an ebay supplier. I'm making my wife a turntable for her engraving bench, and also for some practice material for her (similar to engraving 416)

I searched around and he had the best price's I could find. It arrived at darn near light speed, ~ 4-5 days. Nice clean stock too.

Robot Metals also has it in sizes up to 4" wide. Just a bit more pricey but not crazy bad.......
