Looking for a sub 3" blade, prefer G10 scales, flipper or assisted, one hand opening

i also put in a vote for the dragonfly 2, definitely go the zdp-189 route, its a little more expensive but beyond worth it in my book, truly a huge knife in a small package

I can't believe no one has mentioned the ontario rat 1 or 2. The ontario rat 2 is 3 inches, the rat 2 is a 3.5. But I have big hands, and the rat 1 is more comfortable than the 2 which feels a bit cramped. But if your hands are average or small, they should be fine. Great knife too

Brous Bionic, Spyderco Dragonfly 2 ZDP-189 are my favorite sub 3" modern folders.

The ZDP Dragonfly is like buying a kitten and getting the capabilities of a lion. Its truly the little knife that could.
Another vote for dragonfly. Kod couldn't have put it better. Unbelievable little knife. Non threatening and can still do just about anything.

Spyderco Chaparral or any configuration of BM mini barrage. Both are under 3 inches blade and are knives to be proud of having...

I say buy quality one time. If it ain't bolted down sell it to afford a quality piece. I'm biased but I will routinely pay WAY more for American made for companies that are bringing it back or never left.

There are a few things we do right in the US and making knives is one of those. That said I'm carrying the Japanese made Spyderco sprint double bevel in VG10. The fit and finish is ridiculously good. I've got a Sebenza 21 small on order. I've concluded much the same about knife size for EDC.

I own the Manix 2, PM2, ZT0350 and many others that are on the smaller side. The only time I wish I had a longer blade is when slicing an apple but even then it's only because I use super long kitchen knives for that at home. I make due just fine with small blades for everything and much prefer them for blister packs.

That Dragonfly would be great just not a flipper. The Domino quite a bit more pricey.

I tend to buy the steel and form factor as equal factors. ZDP-189 is the next steel I want. If I were you I'd forget about lesser quality steels when there are so many great options now. ....that said I just like VG10, it's still a great steel.

I sent the wife a link for the Dragonfly 2 zdp-189 nishijin scales so she can get it for me for Christmas. If she doesn't get it for me, I'll pick it up myself after the holiday. I"ve been selling a few things here, on eBay (not knives... yet) and on other non-knife forums so I have some spending money.

Thanks for the input.

The cutting edge on an Ontario Rat 2 is 2.75". Search this site and youtube reviews and you will see that this is a quality folder for under $30, with a cult-like following. These are probably the fastest and smoothest non assisted knives I have ever handled (Rat 1 and Rat 2). There is no wrist action necessary. Just your thumb will make this baby swing out at lightning speed. Also don't be afraid of Taiwan. It's not China. The quality control is very good on these Rat knives. Available in many colors as well and black or satin blade finish.

I'm a fan but the Rat 2 is far from the fastest or smoothest folder I've used.
