I really want a kelly perfect jersey. I have quite a few axes that it would be willing to trade. I have two norlunds, a chopper 1 USA, a plumb 32 double, a Kelly flint edge 32 double, true temper tommy axe, umb lathing hatchet and a plumb 32 single. I can post pics of my complete collection thus far the only one I'm not willing to part with is my true temper kelly perfect Michigan that I refinished.

If you don't like the price that the Kelly Perfects are going for at auction, get a different brand name. A Collins Legitimus or Mann Knot Klipper version of the Jersey pattern is every bit as good (assuming same condition) and typically half the price. I'm guessing that the Kelly Perfect version is only being driven up because of its promotion in An Axe To Grind.

Mike.

Watch for a beat up one on everyone's favorite auction sight. I found one with the bit in pretty good shape, but it looked like it had been used more as a hammer than as an axe. The poll was mushroomed about 1/4 inch on each side and the eye was deformed a little. Can't remember what I paid but it was reasonable.

It took me a long time to fix it up, but it turned out pretty good. I ground off the mushroom with an angle grinder and flat bastard. Straightened the eye by pounding on it with a 4 pound single jack using a block of wood as an anvil. I wish I would have taken before pictures because it was pretty ugly, but most of the work was on the soft poll and eye end of the axe. I'll try to get a photo up today. Check out Council's website. I just bought a brand new Jersey pattern with raised cheeks from them. It's not a TT KP, but it's been seeing quite a bit of use. Pretty happy with it so far.

Yeah I have a bid on one right now that looks like it's completely rusted to crap but if I can get it cheap enough it might be worth it. Time will tell.

Hete are a few axes I have up for trade. I understand jerseys are highly sought after and I would trade a couple heads for just one jersey. Idk worth a shot.

Here is a photo of my old Jersey pattern and my New Jersey pattern. I definitely like the old one better. The old one was a mess when I got it. With your skills, you should easily be able to repair some serious damage to an axe head. Just be sure the bit is in good shape.

Great job on that Perfect. What did the file tell you between those two?

Thanks Garry.

Haven't tried a file on the Council yet. Just a couple of minutes with a flapper wheel. I'll try to take a file to it this week. I've heard pretty good things about the Council axes though. It's definitely a user.

Now that I look at them together, the Council advertised "Jersey" pattern looks more like a Baltimore pattern.

They don't make them like they used to.
Sometimes when I hear that I think its a dang good thing, but not when it comes to hand tools.

Nice! Yeah I really want one. Maybe I'll run into one at the flea market. Doubt it but there is always e bid. I have a few axes I'm selling anyhow that when said and done I could buy at least a couple Tt kp jerseys.

I have a collins legitimus 4.5lb jersey axe and it is an incredible axe. the craftsmanship is great-- wonderful symmetry all around and the steel is very hard, but still workable. I chopped thru a nail this summer with it, and it only put the tiniest of dings in the edge! Berny in "an axe to grind" has a somewhat naive and stubborn view of axes in general-- use this to your advantage and get a good deal on a good axe.

Mike,

I know how you feel. I couldn't wait to get my first KP Jersey. I even went so far as bidding $200 on an axe head that looked brand new. Still lost the auction. I feel stupid now, but you can get caught up in the auction. Hang in there, you'll get one. If it's ugly, you'll get even more satisfaction from making it pretty.

Later.
