As the title says I'm looking for an overbuilt tank of a urban survival knife between 5-7 inches, at least .2 thick, must be full tang, under $250 and a glass breaker would be a plus, currently I'm considering ESEE RC-5, Becker BK-2 or Zero Tolerance 0100, I prefer the 3V of the ZT but don't really like the recurve. An ESEE-5 in 3V would be about perfect. I would have also liked a Busse tank buster, what other options are out there? I prefer 3V or INFI or should I just wait for the next Busse run in that category?

Oh yeah, the last chance is another I was considering, there's just something about the blade shape I don't quite like for some reason. Looking at a pic of it, I think its the drop point, but even so its still a contender because of steel, maker and dimensions. Also I already have a swisstool and a SA XD45. :D

For me something that can take more abuse, that doesn't have a problem being used as a prybar, glass breaker, used to cut chain link fence, etc instead of having to carry an actual pry bar, wire cutters, hammer. Where as in the woods the hardest thing you'd have to cut is wood so a thinner blade, lighter knife is more desirable and it doesn't have to be overbuilt.

If you really want the 3V steel then go with the Fehrman Last chance as stated above or the Shadow scout if you want one a bit lighter weight.

The ESEE5 is a great knife as well.

Cutting chain link fence??? man am I glad I don't live where you live. To me, urban survival means a multi-tool and a small fixed blade... and a small handgun if you can CCW...

This guy makes some stuff that might interest you. 1/4" 1095 and he can do custom touches like a glass breaker if you ask. Just don't ask for serrations or a sawback.

I opted for the ESEE RC-5. For me it functions pretty much the same whether in the urban or the wild environments. Although I can see using the glass breaker more so in the urban setting and perhaps more prying if I don't have my mini pry-bar with me. Great choices here.

Thanks, that clears it up perfectly. Like others have said, a Busse will fit your needs pretty well, but that may be a bit over your stated budget.

thanks...one more maker to add to my want list...just what I needed :p

You and me both brother. I was waffling about buying the Guardian MKIV when a Tom Halloran knife that fit my needs a little better came along for a great price.

Oh well, that just means I'll pick up one of his bigger knives for hiking/camping.:D

That's how you're supposed to do it, right? Buy more and more knives and assign them specialized purposes? It aint rationalizing if I dont want it to be.

It's a bit smaller than you're looking for, but otherwise you just described the ESEE HEST to a T.

Possibly chain link fence, who knows I'd rather have something that's capable and not need it than not have it and need it, a knife that could be used to get in or out of otherwise inaccessible area's, don't really need a ninja fighting knife with blood grooves though ;) but thanks for the helpful suggestion. Also the H.E.S.T. would definitely be a good back up.
