Looking for a very dressy knife

Spyderco Cricket can be gotten for your price range. Kiwi can be gotten for 60. SAK with custom scales is another choice.

Or a simple marjacq with ebony is also classy

That Hiro and the fixed Browning are both seriously attractive. Must remember.
I have an ebony Marjacq but I don't think it offers anything over an Opinel.

The handle of the Marjacq is a bit more refined.
But you're right.
A step up would be a Périgord for example

They are also available as a slip joint

Néo: thanks for pointing me to the Périgord. Must investigate.

All this made me think of one of my fave knives: the classic French Nontron. The model 25 is perfect.

It's a great knife with a lot of history. If you want to see it in the hand and hear a bit about its background, do check my review clip 3 in my review list.

It's different and elegant and only a bit above your $50 limit.

Any of the Fallkniven TK3 series. Classy styling, soilid high quality build, lock back, and very high quality laminated 3G (SGPS) blade steel.

Style, Quality, and Function without compromise.

They are not inexpensive, but if you dress for success.......

EDIT: Sorry, overlooked the OP's requirement for 3" blade. The TK3 is only 2 3/4".

definitely +1 on the buck noble both in stainless and carbon fiber favorite choice so far

My suggestion is the Chris Reeve Mnandi. If you don't like that, then look at William Henry.

How about a Queen slippie with pearl? It's a bit more than your $50 limit, but not much.
