Looking for advice on my first Busse purchase

I'm a long-time Spyderco guy, but have recently been exposed to the Busse world. All of the research I have done has me itching to join the madness. With such amazing customer loyalty, something tells me I'm making a wise decision, but I could use some advice. My budget is around the $250 range and I am looking at getting a Game Warden or a Badger Attack. I realize a lot of it comes down to personal preference, but which knife would you recommend to provide the best "Busse Experience". What do you see as the pros and cons of each knife? From what I've ready I probably wouldn't go wrong with either, but I'd love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

I don't have either, however it will be easier to score a Badger Attack than a Game Warden. To me the Badger Attack seems like a better value because it is a larger knife, you get to choose your color combo, and it isn't much more expensive than some of the Game Wardens.

Both are great knives which would you use more?

Wardens can be hard to get but I know you can get one from the exchange for not too much more than the Co Store price IF you take your time. You can also get one from the Company store if you are diligent. They are limited production so you never know if you'll get one or not.

With the Badger it is a sure thing just order it.

the badger attack tac is available for order now, but wont ship for some time. there are currently game wardens available on the exchange.

it would be hard to compare since no one yet has a batac. however the larger badger might be more versitile.

the gw excels in the utility area. small, easy to manuever, thin profile, large belly for skinning, etc.

if you dont mind waiting, i recommend the badger. and remember you also wont be charged for a few months.

if you're like me, and a little impatient. order the badger and save for when you will be charged. find a gw in your price range now, and have it within a week.

The Badger Attack is one of the classic Busse designs. This is the third version (straight handle, E-handle, now TAC handle.)

While you might have to wait a little longer for it, I would recommend the Badger Attack because it will really give you a feel for the work since this is an updated version of one of their tried and true staple knives.

Or, buy a GW now to see if you like it. If you don't like it, you can probably sell it for what you had in it and still get the Badger Attack.

FYI, the other two long term staples are the Steel Heart and Battle Mistress. Worth reading up about just for good background. The latest version of the Battle Mistress is the Fusion Battle Mistress, and it will be available at the Company Store in the near future. A little over your budget, but still worth checking out.

what about the baIII? doesnt that make four? or five with the aba?

My bad, I guess I'm getting tired. I always think of the BAIII and ABA as the "same", but in either case that was another Badger so the TAC is at least the fourth. Or potentially the fifth depending on personal taste.

Even a better reason not to miss out on the latest version of the Badger since it is up right now.

Good catch!

Get a badger for sure. The game warden is an exelent knife, but I think you will get more value from the badger and more utility.

i only have the ba-e, ive been looking for some others, but to no avail.

id love a baIII.

i think the aba is probably considered a variation on the baIII.

I would suggest waiting for the next extravaganza.

You might see something you like better than a Badger for a very good price.

If you try hard enough you can get an extravaganza item.

If not, just order a Badger.

It's not that hard to score on the Extravaganzas. I've got what I wanted in the three I've tried for.

Lzlo, I am a Busse virgin too! I got a BATAC on order and can not wait.

Oh Great MORIMOTOM what is the time frame for delivery on this last run? I ordered last week. I am going to piss my pants if it does not arrive within a month.

I got a DF on order too, not INFI, but a sweet ass chopper. Good luck Lazlo Hollyfeld, study the boards and learn from the INFI Gods that what I do.

generally, the current line stays up for 3-6 months. they will charge and start shipping a couple weeks before it is taken down.

i wouldnt plan on having the batac until late april at the earliest.

Rat Farts!!! Thanks MORIMOTOM for chiming in so quickly! Saw your Busse collection in another thread f-ing awsome!!!

Looks like I will be holding on to my INFI virginity a little while longer and in wet pants. Doh!:grumpy:

I have to answer a question with a question.

Are you planning on carrying it with you all the time or only once in a while?

I think the rest is obvious.

I love the Game Wardens becuase they are easy to EDC, a Badger on the other hand gets some strange looks and makes people uncomfortable.

heck no!!! grab something more budget minded like a game warden to hold you over.

the skeletons and muddys are all under 200.00.

Game Warden is more portable, and easier to EDC. Relative to Spyderco, it's similar to a Dragonfly within the Busse line.

BA is a good size for a field knife. Good belt knife for the woods, probably not for work (unless you're lucky). Similar to a mini-manix or paramilitary.

I'd spend the money on a badger, unless you want to carry a Game Warden very frequently, want a folder replacement, or just like smaller knives. BTW, my Spydie references are relative to the entire Spyderco line - Dragonfly and GW are on the small end of their respective companies, but the Game Warden is going to feel more like a beefier Manix or Military in hand.
